i know they have them at walmart. keep in mind a kid can take those off... most are just velcro. walmart also sells a little backpack with a leash on it... i think they have a bear, dog, and monkey. i have the monkey one for my son. they cant get it off because it clips across the chest. they are really cute!
i havent actually used it with my son yet, so thats all i can tell you! but definitely try walmart.

You might try children's stores. When I was young (up to 5 years old), I had a tendency of wandering off, and running off at home. My mother bought a harness with a ring on the back to which she hooked a leash. Now this was back in the late 40's. I kept disappearing outside when she'd turn away. We had a long clothes line, so she tied a rope to the ring and tied the other end to the line. Until I figured out how to slip out of the harness, everything was fine. Then one day, I got out of the harness. It took almost 4 hours to find me. If that happened today, my mom would have been arrested for CHILD ABUSE. I've seen folks with their little one on a wrist leash and I salute the mom while others are shaking their heads and making nasty comments.
Check out this website for help finding one of those leashes.
Good luck! You are one smart mom!

I used to think those things looked like pet leashes until I experienced first hand what it was like to take a toddler shopping with me. My daughter sometimes likes to hide inside the clothes racks, and then I panic for a couple of seconds until I hear the giggling from inside a rack. I haven't resorted to the "leash" yet, but now I understand why people get them. Who cares what you look like to other people as long as your child is safe? You can't be too careful nowadays.
That said, I've seen them in Babies R Us and Walmart and you can definitely find them on line. http://www.onestepahead.com has a lot of safety products, including the leash, which is called The Kid Keeper. One product that I am considering buying as an alternative, is called The Giggle Bug Toddler Tracker http://www.onestepahead.com/product/85215/487760/117.html. It's a 2-piece device which functions as a child locator, one piece you clip to your child, and the other piece you can hang on your keychain. If you lose sight of your child, you press the button on your device, and the device on your child emits a loud beep, like a homing beacon! I had a co-worker that used one of these and she said it worked great.

you can get them anywhere they have a baby isle, I know they have them at walmart. I don't agree w/ them, they are children not pets. I have a 3 and a half year old and never felt a need to use one on her, she has been out of her stroller for a 2 years, so i never understood the need for them, if she looks like she is getting ansy then I hold her hand or have her *help* push her baby sister in the stroller.

You could buy them at any store like Walmart, Target, Kmart, but I bought one with my first and she was behind me fussing as usual and when I looked back she took it off and went the other way! I threw it in the trash and got me a stroller!

I have a cute little "puppy" leash for my son. (don't use it anymore, though.) Its like a little toy puppy, which is also a back pack. Its tail is the leash, and its feet go around your childs stomach and clips up, like his giving your child a cuddle. Got it from bambinipronto.com.au.

My sister had one of those doggy harnesses for her son. It worked really well cause he couldn't take it off. Some people kind of looked down on it but when your in a really crowded spot it's a lot better than losing him in the crowd.

I got mine from poundland.
They should be in baby safety sections at good stores, and they're called wrist reins :)

I hate those things! I always felt bad for the kids because they were treated more like dogs on a leash than little people.
I wish you would reconsider using one, but I guess Walmart might have one.
