virgodoll is right. HINDU's statement, "Higher hindu teachings:unawareness is the biggest sin is" is also right.
Additionally, I can add that disobeying the instruction of God is sin.
A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in his introduction to Bhagavad-gita-As-It-Is, states as follows in this regard.
"Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear." Thus the Lord takes all responsibility for one who surrenders unto Him, and He indemnifies such a person against all reactions of sins.
P.S.The word Hindu is misnomer. Use Sanatana Dharma, but it is ok in a general conventional sense.

According the Vedic philosophy, man is pure and perfect and that there is a state beyond good and evil and that is man's own nature.Hinduism does not have any theory of evil or sin. It is only called ignorance and another step in the learning process.
in the words of swami Vivekananda" what good will it do to u to think all ur lives 'oh! i have done evil, so many mistakes'?Bring in the light and the ignorance goes in a moment."

I am hindu by birth and am in india all my life, i never heard that pre-marital sex is sin.
If there is any sin, hindus dont bother much. They just move on mocking at it.
I myself dont believe in sin, i believe in vedas and Gita.
In Gita lord krishna said not performing duty is sin, which causes rebirth, which i accept.
yeah, there is mention of hell in hinduism, but most dont care. Hindus mostly believe in reincarnation if once commits sins and believe that finally one becomes one with god.

There are the three Gunas in Vedanta ( Hindusim ) which are:
Sloth is the closest thing to sin , it is called tamas.
Activity overcomes sloth, it is called rajas.
Sattva is the goal. It is the balance called simple happiness. And, love of God and life.
No sin like a westerner thinks of it ... please don't worry about sin, you know right from wrong ... just follow that. It is easy.
And, you are not a sinner!
With love ;
