If someone attempts to over dose and needs to get thier stomache pumped, what happens? Can they leave the same day? DO they have to stay in the hospital for a long time? Can they just leave the hospital?

believe me! it is not a pretty sight and hurts like hell! i went through it but they let me go after several hours. the hospital emergency section made sure i did not go home alone and someone stayed with me for a couple of days to see how i was doing. i then decided that i NEVER want to go through that procedure again!!! not ever again!! that took care of any repeat performance......

Your stomach is not really "pumped." You get a large tube shoved down your nose into your stomach and your stomach is rinsed out, perhaps charcoal instilled and suctioned out. Depends on what you took and if it is still in your stomach. No you cannot leave the same day. You are put on a 72 hour psychiatric hold and held for observation. If you are still suicidal then a 14 day hold is written. After that a judge sees you for involuntary commitment or you commit yourself voluntarily.

Don't do it.
