I am trying very hard to get my life on the right track again. I was raised Southern Baptist and taught that alcohol is ok in moderation. I am now non-denominational and being new to the area (military) have no fellow Christians or a pastor to discuss this with. I have prayed and do enjoy a few drinks, but I honestly don't know how to be now. I am tormented a bit with it and would like fellow Christian output. I have researched several sites but they all conflict with each other. Please help. NO RUDE OR CRUDE REMARKS< I will report.

Opinion is divided on this matter. Some denominations like Methodists and Seventh-day Adventists teach total avoidance of alcohol, whilst others say it is not wrong to use it in moderation. Both groups find support for their stands from the Bible. What is not disputed is that the Bible is aginast drunkeness.

Personally, i can think of more reasons to avoid alchol all together than to drink it in "moderation". Very small amounts will have little if any effect on you, but then if it has no effect why not eliminate it totally? It certainly is not needed by the body. The health benefits of drinking wine come from anti-oxidants, not from alchol, so drinking unfermented grape juice gives you the benefits without the alcohol. Alohol is treated as a toxin by the body. The liver has complex mechanisms for regulating the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteinsm and fats to produce a controlled release of energy from these nutrients, but it has no controls to slow down the metabolism of alcohol because it is designed to try and get rid of it as fast as possible because it is an undesirable toxin.

Even when consumed in quantities too small to cause drunkenness, Alcohol impairs judgment and reduces self control, which makes it easier to yield to temptation and commit sins, do from a spiritual standpoint it is harmful to spiritual health.

Don't drink any alcohol. It is our #1 drug problem and Christians need to leave it alone. People of a high caliber as Christians should be, should lead a pure and faultless life before the world and alcohol is not the way to do that. I have been saved for 30 years and am a missionary and pastor. I work with drug addicts and alcoholics to get them off of this drug..

Jesus turned the water into wine at Cana. It was alcoholic. Anyone that reads the passage knows the one that praises the host is for bring out the best wine last instead of the worst when folks are "smashed."

However there are lots of passages that speak against drunkeness and a verse that talks about not causing your brother to fall.

With that said, my opinion is you can drink until it changes you, regardless of that change be good or bad. Any Christian that says otherwise, need to back it with the Bible or lose it.

I think it's not in your best interest to drink alcohol at all. I am a member of Lakewood with Joel Osteen, non-denominational, and we teach against it. You're going to get various opinions on this, but I think that anything that leaves you wondering about it's right/wrong is better error on the side of caution. Remember that God is not in nor the author of confusion.

I just wanted to see if this type of insight could help others who are suffering?

As my feet slap down against the cold wet pavement, and my face drips rain from the storm, an unrelenting need to drink pushes me further. Exact final destination appears unknown , but it's inevitable that the evil inside will again return me to the source of my nightmare. No control, no will of my own, no power had I found that might evict this hell that had infected my body and mind. Self-identity, and all that was once me, had been buried under countless layers of drunkenness, so deep, that any calls for help were merely an echo inside my head.
This living liquid curse, cunning and without conscience, had been absorbed into a body which at one time eagerly welcomed it's unyielding influence. But now, as the onslaught of alcohol turned viciously against the world around me, it was only I being held responsible for it's drunken destruction carried out during my imprisonment.
Those intense fear ridden mornings, when I awoke to find yet another nightmare of alcohol's creation, devilishly constructed from it's own personality the night before. Whether it was the sight of dried blood crusted over both hands, or the unfamiliar surroundings of a place where I shouldn't have been, alcohol knew how to render me frozen with crippling insecurity. Too frightened to reason out a healthy answer as to what was happening to me, a deliberate terror of conscience always reached out and tightly gripped my soul. This devil, disguised and hidden behind my own recently drunken face, knew exactly where I'd run to for help. This was much more then an accident through drink. Alcohol's intent was to survive at all costs, to live and breath it's own existence using me as it's host of choice.
But, now, unaware of this developing transformation, all I wanted to do was calm the terror inside my head. There would be only one place, one exit, one chance to escape into a feeling of normality. Alcohol left nothing to chance, and as it waited patiently for me to return a bottle to my lips, I could almost hear a deep sullen laughter quicken my mobility. I desperately needed to lock myself away into the only security I knew, and to experience that precious freedom, I once again had to ingest my enslaver.

No alcohol is NOT ok... It harms your witness... if you try to win someone to the Lord and they see you with a beer in your hand or come to your home and see beer in your fridge, they look at you and they say to them selves, this is not a christian..... Drinking an occasional drink is sinful and as a southern baptist, you should know what it says about wine bibbers in the holy Bible.... See people turn scriptures into what they want them to be... They leave out verses before or ones to follow... To get the true understanding of Gods word, you cant pick and chose... You have to be Honest with your self and not be afraid to challenge what is true... As a christian, I fall short all the time... I am By NO means perfect.. But I STRIVE.... and I do my best to keep in Gods will... And When he says NO he means NO.... So put down the Bottle and pick up The Bible.... God Bless

AND JESUS DID NOT DRINK LIKE STATED BEFORE... HE PREFORMED A MIRACLE AT A WEDDING.. WINE THEN WAS NOT ALCOHOLIC.... IT WAS NOT FERMENTED...... SO BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY..... THE WINE HE MADE WAS A GRAPE JUICE AS WE KNOW IT........ ANYONE WHO KNOWS HISTORY SHOULD KNOW THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a Christian too, and I often wonder about this. I think that if you have one or two drinks God is not going to condemn you. After all, Jesus turned water into wine and then drank it at that wedding!! BUT the Bible does say not to get drunk. You know what your limit is....just ask yourself this: if you were with Jesus and drinking wine at that wedding, how many drinks would you feel comfortable having? That's how many you should have! Don't get too caught up in all the "rules" that humans (especially religious humans) like to create for themselves and others; focus on God and stay on the path that leads to Him! He knows your heart! I love you! Good luck!

In the Church Of Jesus Christ LDS we have been told not to drink at all. When in doubt don't do it. Jesus gave you the light of Christ to know the difference between right and wrong pray about it then just do as you feel the lord wants you to do.

The Bible says not to drink. It says it is a sin and all sins no matter how small or large is just plain terrible and horrible in the sight of our infinite God.
