You may not need medical attention at all. Many stores sell a triangle-shaped device that fits over the end of your pen. When you grip this it changes the way your fingers hold the pen. This alleviates the pain of some kinds of writers cramp, and it only costs a few cents. There is a picture of one of these grips at the bottom of this page:
