Is there a common, specific type of mental illness that the majority of people/animals imprisoned deveope after being in captivity for so long?

Bi-polar is very common but not always diagnosed correctly. Bi-polar is like a giant umbrella for many other illnesses. It can be diagnosed and controlled for the most part if you find the right doctor.

you are looking for the terms "learned helplessness" or "post traumatic stress disorder" you'll have to google those. the other answers on here are wrong. the captivity has to be abusive, like a concentration camp, beatings/abuse you can't escape, that kind of thing.

Avoidant personality disorders/social phobias, look up those to diseases, mental health disorders, its a very hard questsion to answer.

yes they have a hard time being around other people or animals, it is an anti social disorder.
