Depends what you like...
Glasgow has excellent night-life, plenty of bars, restaurants, clubs and the like; Edinburgh too but to a lesser extent.
Edinburgh is great as a clean and historical city, also worthy of mention are Stirling and Perth.
Some of the east coast towns and cities leave something to be desired, they are, in my opinion, tired and tatty. I'd suggest avoiding Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee. Inverness provides convenient access to the surrounding wild lands but has little else to redeem it.
An oft overlooked area is the south west (Dumfries and Galloway) - most tourists pass by on the M74 and miss out on the charms of the quiet hills.
Any visit to Scotland has to take in the magnificent scenery and you can't get much better than the west coast - anywhere north of Glasgow is well worth a visit. Take some of the minor roads and discover the lochs and mountains away from the tourist throngs. For spectacular mountain scenery a visit to the areas of Lochaber (around Fort William and Glencoe) and Torridon is highly recommended as is a trip to the Isle of Skye (now connected to the mainland by a bridge).
Skye is noted for the jagged peaks of the Cuillins, a serious challenge for mountain enthisiasts but fantastic views area afforded from the roadside as well. If you do visit Skye then drive the Broadford to Elgol road from where there are excellent views to Bla Bheinn (Blaven) and later on, towards the dark, secret corrie of Loch Coruisk backdropped by the barren volcanic Black Cuillins. A boat (the Bella Jane) sails from Elgol to Loch Coruisk and although quite expensive, is a memorable trip.
Whilst on Skye take in Dunvegan Castle, watch the seals offshore, and drive through the strange peaks and pinaccles of the Quirang.
There are many other worthy islands and time permitting, a visit to Rhum and Jura is a pleasant way to spend a day. Both have stunning mountain scenery and are quiet and secluded.

Hi, Scotland is a beautifull place to visit, don't miss Edingburgh and If you have the time, the West Coast, is especially nice, from yhe mountains around Glencoe, the town of Oban, Ayr, the birthplace ot Robbie Burns, and the Islands of Skye, Mull, Coll, Tyree, Staffa and Iona...There is so much history over there, some of the best accomodations are "Bed & Breakfast" not cheap, but affordable..I lived and worked there for about 3 years and enjoyed most everything, especially the friendly people..any more questions, I'll try to answer, Gerry
