i have curly hair but i straighten it often-does it matter if i go in with curly or straight hair? do they wash my hair before because i just straightened my hair and would rather not wash it unless they do

It depends on how much hair you have to highlight. I have thick long hair and it takes me about and hour and a half. It also depends on how fast or busy ur hairstylist is. Make sure you tell ur hairstylist to blend your highlights so its close to your natural haircolor so it wont be super obvious.

I'm not sure how long it takes, but quite awhile--my guess is close to 2 hours. The stylist usually coats individual strands of hair by pulling them through a rubber cap or separating portions of your hair and laying it on something like aluminum foil and then paints the solution on to make the highlights. Then the stuff has to sit and process maybe 25 minutes or so. Then you'll, no doubt, get it curled or blow dried into a style. Tell the stylist that you've never had highlights before so, just like you say here, you don't want it to be too obvious. The people who know you will be able to tell. If you don't want a change that is noticeable, why are you doing this. You don't say the color of your hair. If it's dark, are you going for subtle red highlights. If it's kind of blond, do you want streaks. Have some idea to tell the stylist about or take a picture from a magazine. Have fun. It's expensive and I don't know about the upkeep once the roots start to grow out to your natural color.

Make sure you tall your styler what you like what you dont and think about maintenance. The lighter you get them the more often you will need to retouch, so get only two or three shades lighter or if you are totally usung a diferent shade of what your natural is, get only few levels diferent. levels usually go from 1 (dark) to 10 (lightest blonde) If you want only your crown done and depending on the speed and technique they use you will probably be there "cooking" from 15 to 45mins, they can take as long as 1 1/2 hour to put on not counting time under dryer and wash and cut and dry, so good luck i hope i helped you. One more thing tell her you want something very natural, so people wont tell...

It depends on your hair length and the amount of highlights. If you want natural looking highlights, have them foil about 2 shades lighter in small pieces. Also, it is more natural to have your hair lighter around the face than in the back. Another thing you could ask for is a different tones, rather than all one color.
My question would be...If you don't want it to be obvious, and you don't want people to be able to tell...then why spend the $$$?!

it will take about 1.5 hours because they have to let the dye set in then they'll have to wash and dry your hair again.
ask specifically for highlights that will blend in well, not chunky ones.
be sure to ask for a natural blonde color, i used to get a mix of high and low lights so it blended nicely
hope that helps, the stylist should know what to do if you just say something

If you just get a few to complement your hair color and keep the shade two shades lighter or darker, it may be obvious but no drastic or shocking. It'll take 15-30 minutes to process.
