The best kind of dog is one that comes from the pound or a shelter. There are so many dogs that are killed because they dont get adopted, and usually this is where you can find some of the sweetest dogs. Just go to your local shelter and pick the dog that acts like he wants to go home with you the most.

Well, the best kind of dog is a well loved, trained dog.

What size of dog do you want - what activity level - how much shedding can you handle - how big of a yard do you have - these are all questions that you need to ask before getting a dog. By finding out what a particular breed is bred for can tell you a lot about the general characteristics of the breed. i.e. german shepherds are herders. . .and are active and dominant. not everyone can handle that!

p.s. I have German Shepherds. They keep me very busy, but they are the best!!!

Well it really depends on what you are into. Like if you want a fluffy lap dog your not going to want a Alaskan Malamute. Yes they are fluffy but they are to big to fit in your lap. And if you want a dog that is like a hunting kind then your not going to want a Bichon or something. So it truely just depends on what you are looking for in a dog and what you want to beable to do with your dog. Also there is no such thing as the "best" kind of dog. People are always going to have different opinions of what they think is the "best" kind of dog. For instance My personal favorite is a Jack Russell Terrir, but I no plenty of people that would disagree with me.

There's no single answer. It really depends on you and your lifestyle. Here are some sites I looked at when I was trying to decide what kind of dog was best for me. I hope they help you too.

http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/dogbreeds/index.html (This one hawks a book but I just looked at the breed reviews for the pros and cons of that breed. So, I don't know if the book is any good but you could probably get it at a library.)

The best kind of dog is the kind with responsible owners prepared to put in the time to train them. Plus time to socialise them and to care for them properly. Makes for THE best dog.

I have a 2 yr old beagle and a 3 month old bull mastiff....they are both great. The only problem that I have is my mastiff thinks he is a lap dog!!! He loves to sit and snuggle with me and the kids. Right now it isn't too bad but once he reaches 120-150+ pounds, that may pose an issue!

Personally I like to think Doberman Pinchers are the best dogs. They are extremely smart, loyal, and protective of anyone in the household it was raised in. All dogs are good dogs though, it all depends on how the animal was brought up and raised.
