They say they are killing 'insurgents' in the scores ( at least ) daily but it seems nowadays helicopters are raining down on iraq . 4 out of some 58 in the past 2 weeks alone. How come there is no end to the supply of the so called ' Insurgents ' ??

I don't think we are winning OR losing! I think that big picture is just now coming into view & Sadam actually knew how to keep these "insurgent groups" in line. I'm not saying that he was the best leader, but what has happened hasn't really helped anyone, as far as the news I have seen. I know that there is much that we do not know, so I'm trying to be patient with my views on the subject of this strange war. I think it is time that the U.S.A. takes a firm stand & decides to become conquerors in this war & attack from all angles or get out. We are wasting time, money, & lives & nothing seems to be changing. I hope we are being lied to & something really IS being accomplished over there.

I think it is not possible to win the hearts & minds of Iraqis. It cannot be because they are Muslims and/or Arabs who will never accept America's support for Israel.

In order for the US to gain a measure of success in the hearts-&-minds propaganda, America need to rebuild the Iraqi economy, town by town. The efforts must be visible and tangible to the villagers, townspeople who must reap the direct economic benefits to feel a 'sense of gratitude'.

The Pentagon's strategy of "shock & awe" in major aspects of the US invasion do not contribute to a peaceable image of an alien occupier. US bombed Iraq and its infrastructure for 59 consecutive days in Gulf War 1. "You took and occupy our cities at the point of a gun and now you want our hearts & minds?" Get real. The war has only just begun....

Iraq has tens of thousands of 'insurgents' - the few hundred or thousands killed are only a small fraction. How long does the US intend to stay? 10, 20 years? No problem. They still have insurgents aplenty... in the tens of thousands.

The insurgents as they call them are actually Iraq citizens and there is no end to the hatred they feel for the west USA in particular.Don't people remember the pictures after 9/11 of Iraq men, women and children spiting and cheering. So why now after invading their country and destroying all infrastructure so they are dependent on the west would they not hate us even more, that's the most stupid thing no matter which side ends up in power they are still going to hate us with a vengeance

No, but we're losing the battle for the hearts and minds of American's support for being there. The Iraqis hearts and minds do not want us to leave them yet.

Jaco, no I mean the third type of Iraqi that has a family or dreams of having one, who is afraid of the fanatics that are killing so many innocent people. They want us out of Iraq, but not yet. We are all that stands between them and the kind of political purge that happened after the fall of Saigon and they know it.

The enemy in Iraq knows just how to use the war of public perception better than we westerners.

The Sunnis in Iraq use to be in power and used terror, murder and assassinations to get their way. They want to keep the power no matter what. The Shiites don't want to roll over again so they have come out swinging. Then you have Al Quida trying to get recruits for missions outside of Iraq. None of these parties are going to be charmed.

So far only 5 of 18 providences are affected although the area hold most of the Sunnis.

they are glad that Saddam went but if they knew the American occupation would be this bad and that you would fail to control the country destroy the economy and bring an end to the rule of law , they would have fort for Saddam
everyone has a story of a relative who has died since the disastrous occupation , but most people lost none under Saddam

the neo cons saying that everything is fine is like inn vietnam where the government was saying your actualy winning, the only strange part ios why americans are so easy to fool

remmeber what bush said he invaded for WMD .................not terrorism

A civil war is going on to kill all insurgents would require about 1/3 of the population to die. You cant win hearts and minds during a brief occupation it takes just 1 rape/murder/house fire to cancel 10,000 vaccinations or medical treatments.

For one element, violence is up in Afghanistan. between the proper articles on yahoo! information tells us that better civilians there are lack of life via American fingers than via militant attacks. And for yet another element, who's ever chuffed in conflict? supply up pointing palms and putting the blame on others; study the region rationally, with no purple, or blue, tint. It helps you, and our u . s . a ., contained in the destiny. How a lot are you able to extremely believe former insurgents? we are giving them guns now; what's to save them from turning on us? Hearts and minds are being ever day, you assert. authentic, yet also they're being lost. we are not doing adequate, and we are not helping them adequate. On CNN, they gave information that eu international places, jointly with Sweden, are taking in tens of 1000's of Iraqi refugees to assist them. the U. S., on the different hand, is taking in a million a month. we decide on to construct colleges there; we decide on to provide them a objective, an identity. we decide on to assist the international, and how contained in the international can we ever do this if we purely save rambling and destroying our personal team spirit? Be noble. Be American. Throw away the ridiculous labels that in hardship-free words harm our u . s . a . contained in the destiny.

Things like this help win 'regular' Iraqis over. And this is not just a single incident. The U.S. military is known for its humanitarian actions in ALL wars. When I was in Viet Nam, we had a young Vietnamese boy with half his hip blown away in our sick bay. He was 10.
