WASHINGTON - The U.S. acknowledged Friday that Iraq is spiraling downward, with sectarian animosity growing and new Iraqi troops being added too slowly in a precarious mix that could draw the country's neighbors into the violence when the American troops leave.

The sobering assessment from the National Intelligence Council was seen by congressional Democrats — and some Republicans — as new evidence that President Bush's Iraq policy is failing in a big way.

"I do not see anything so far in the report that suggests the president's new plan is a winning strategy that protects America's national interest," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid , D-Nevada.

For a long long time, this was already the expected outcome. But the problem is that the deciders in the government and the people who believe in them simply can't accept it. Iraq is a lost cause. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but that's the fact. Continuing the war only prolongs the suffering and destruction, but the outcome will still be the same. Iraq is just like Vietnam all over again. But people continue to refuse learning from the lessons of Vietnam.

Many put the blame on the media for reporting the negative aspects of the war. But the media can only report the actual events as they unfold. For the media to report that we're winning the war, when they actually observe that we're losing it, that constitutes disinformation. When the media only reports what we wanted to hear, then that's not objective reporting.

It's called politics. Absolutely everything in Washington is politics. Here it works. You try to be the most popular side. Now if everyone is on the popular side then nobody can use that material against you (except being a flip flopper). Politicans see Bush's low numbers so they find a politican with the best numbers and copy him or her.

This kind of politics is very dangerous, because the U.S. would have surrendered on the second day of WWII (the U.S. was losing 2,000 people a day) with these kinds of politicans. The next president might just skip the conventional part and go straight to nukes because it's quicker and cheaper than a conventional war. The U.S. government can stomach 56,000 people in the U.S. that die each year in car accidents, but they can't stomach 3,000 dead (less than 2,000 from combat) after almost 4 years.

The only fault I see, is the number of Iraqi police and troops. It's extremely low. The U.S. federal government had a much larger force over 100 year ago during the Civil War (and far more people died too).

Oh great! Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid , D-Nevada.
He always provides a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

So he's the go-to guy whenever you want to hear something positive about the President and the war effort? The US can and will win this war if it's people are unified, but thanks to the DNC, CNN, the Washington Post, and the liberal left, it appears that politics are more important than completing our mission in the middle east, defeating terrorism, our President's plan for all of our futures, and our brave soldiers.
Why not start supporting them now?

We have been led by a puppet and his handler...and 6 years of that ...finally the american public has opened their collective eyes..boys, girls, men, and women are dying for his ego. He will never admit to it, he's a baby, he got stuck in the cookie jar of his ego, now he whines.

How can you have faith in that?..Hence the negative outlook.
