It's in the harbor by Jersey City, New Jersey. However, a court decision made it part of New York--even though it's completely surrounded by New Jersey waters.

Liberty Island is part of New York State. However, it is very close to Jersey City, New Jersey (the state line is just a few hundred feet to the west of the Island), but it's still part of our state, not theirs!

Until about 30 years ago, it wa technically in New Jersey, but now it is claimed by New York.

New Jersey, It is in NY harbor, it is run by all NJ power and utilities, NY state DOES NOT collect any sales tax from anything sold their (souvineirs, food, etc.), She's in NY harbor but, is actually run by the state of NJ, and does it really matter ? SHE BELONGS TO ALL OF US ! and their is not a more beautiful lady in the harbor. "United we stand" !
