I parked along a curb, blocking a disabled access ramp, which I didn't know was illegal, but that's not the point. I was issued two tickets within 3 hours of each other. Is this allowed, or can I somehow contest this?
I normally would just pay the tickets, but each one is $250.

The ramp was on the corner of the sidewalk along which I was parallel parked. It was in a pretty residential area, and there were no signs or indications that there was an access ramp built into the curb.

You were also illegal in more ways than one.
You said the Handicap ramp was on the CORNER of the sidewalk...
So you are talking about the ramp where the crosswalk crosses at the intersection?
Handicap or not.. it is illegal to park that close to the corner of an intersection PERIOD!
You are just full of all kinds of idiocy and you deserve every ticket you got.
Suck it up. Pay your fines
And stop being an idiot.
Also check very close on the wording of the ticket. one ticket may be the handicap offense and the other the too close to an intersection. You may have received two tickets for two separate offenses committed with the same act (parking your car).
People always omit details that make them look bad and only stress the details that make them look right, or look the victim. A Friend of my Brothers came to him and told him that he (the friend) got a ticket for talking on a cell phone while driving, He thinks the ticket is illegal. (My Brother is a Cop) My Brother agreed and said yes a ticket for talking on a phone while driving would be illegal (in Texas), be he guarantees that's not what the ticket was for. His friend insisted it was. Brother asked to see the ticket and sure enough, it was for "Failure to maintain lane" In otherwords he was weaving across the lanes like a drunk driver. The friend was talking on his phone, not paying attention and was weaving across traffic.
Talking on the phone may have caused the weaving, but it was the weaving that was the offense that earned him a ticket. not the talking on the cell phone.
And as Paul Harvey would say.. "And thats the REST OF THE STORY"
Good day!
SO to everyone else out there when you hear some asker telling a sob story about how the police wronged him or are harrassing him. take it with a grain of salt.

I'd say you're pretty much out of luck. The first ticket was for the first violation, and then an officer observed that you were still in violation, and issued a second ticket.
Realistically, 3 hours is a long time to be blocking a handicap ramp.

What part of "violation" don't you understand? Usually a handicap "violation" carries a pretty hefty fine. They can fine you each and every time they come by due the fact that you still have not complied with a posted by-law/ordinance. In your case it looks like they keep checking every couple of hours. The only way to beat it would be that the handicap zone wasn't posted and that means any place that it can be seen either inside or outside the vehicle since you are able bodied and without a sticker you should be able to notice the sign!
You've probably heard "Ignorance is no excuse"!

You're lucky you only got two tickets. Let's say it's 3 pm, and the police ticket your car because you are in violation. They could sit there and ticket you at 3:01 pm, 3:02 pm, etc, etc. Every minute you are there is a new violation.
$500 is an expensive lesson, but I bet this teaches you not to block the disabled access in the future.
I work in Law Enforcement, and have disabled friends. I know the parking regs.

1) Every state I have ever been in has laws about parking distances from the corners, cross walks, etc.,too, these area's are marked in some visible way.
2) Is this allowed: Yes! because you were illegally parked, they could have towed your car after that amount of time. You are lucky.
3) You can challenge it in court if you want but, if you loose be prepared to pay a lot more. court fee's, attorney, ticket's.

I guess it's legal. I mean, parking in front of hydrants and ramps is illegal. I think they cited you all of those tickets due to the time you were parked there. You can always contest it, and I would considering the cost of the tickets. That's insane.

Yes, unfortunately it is legal. The way that you look at it is that it is one violation...you parked your car there and left it one time and so common sense says that it is one violation. However, the way they look at it is they gave you a ticket when they came around the first time. Later they came back and your car was there. For all they know or care, you could have driven your car away and came back and parked it there a second time, so, you get another ticket. Hopefully, the judge will show you some leniency.

usually you can't park like 10 feet from the corner of a sideway...was one of the tickets for blocking the handicapped ramp while another was for being too close to the corner?

I don't know how it goes anywhere else but once you have a ticket on your car for a violation of the parking code, you paid for that spot for the day, I would contest it!

You got the first ticket! Your and Idiot! your lucky they diddn't tow your vehicle.... that would have been more for you to pay there! you should have moved your car the first time you got the ticket, then you wouldn't be on yahoo answers asking people if that is allowed.
