I have not lacked for nothing.
I have always been a Christian since as long as I can remember

Because I am a Christian and Jesus is my Savior, God is working in every detail of my life. I rely on God and His word, the Bible, in every decision I make. I always try to think of the commandment "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you," before I do or say anything.

Before I became a Christian, I was a bitter person. Life was all about me. I had a very low self-esteem and I was very self-centered. I often thought I wasn't good enough or as good as other people, but I didn't really care if I said or did anything to hurt others either.

When I had kids, I realized I didn't want them to grow up to be like me. But at the same time, I didn't know anything different to show them. That is when I started doing some heavy soul searching and after a couple years of struggling with myself and God, I became a Christian. Since then I have continued to learn and grow in my walk with God. I'm still not perfect, but I try in every way to be like Jesus in the way I treat others.

Being a Christian has really filled a void that occupied my life for a long time. I know that I am being protected and loved no matter where I am at or what I am doing. I also know that in all the insanity in this world God is still in total control. Now, I may not understand His reasoning all the time for what is going on or being allowed to go on but He will always be with us.

As for how God is working in my life I could give the following:

1) He provides resources (money, objects, etc.) through others to my family and I during these difficult times so that we can make ends meet.
2) He provides protection for me during days and nights both on the battlefield and off.
3) He has provided me with learning materials to better understand Him and how I should communicate His grace, forgiveness, and love to others.

More ways than I could possibly list. I was just existing before. I had no joy in life. Every day was just something to get through. Since committing my life to Christ, I have a reason to get out of bed each day. That's not to say my life has become easier. If anything, it's been more of a challenge, but also more rewarding, and God is always there to provide answers to those challenges. Nothing beats the feeling you get from seeing how God has taken a situation that seemed impossible and turned it around to something better than you ever imagined.

I don't really have an awe-inspiring story of my life being in shreds until I did a 180. But my life has changed.
I'm much more at peace with myself and my future. I've found that by *truly* living in God's wisdom, I can be a better friend to people in need.
At first, I thought sanctification would be really hard, and that it would keep me from enjoying life. But it's been quite the opposite. There is grace in His commands, there is peace in His presence, and there is hope in His promises. I still have fun, and I still have my same old sense of humor.
There truly is liberty in holiness, and there is perfect peace in the presence of God.

There are so many ways to answer this question. But I will say that my joy and peace is great in my life, even during my bad days. Fellowship with the Lord has also blessed my health. I do not get sick like I used to. Also, everything that I need is always provided for me. It may not come when I want it, but it always comes on time. Lastly, The Lord always shows me things to come in the future to protect me and help me make better decisions.

Can religion be a practical guide for living happily?

A religion is a form of primitive philosophy based on mysticism, rather than reason, intended to answer the questions of life and provide guidance to live. Once a person has accepted that faith, rather than reason, provides a sufficient and attractive answer to explain why we exist, and how one should live, one joins a religion and should try to live its precepts in a practical manner. In Christianity, the ideal models that should show the faithful how to live are provided by Jesus and the Saints like Mother Teresa.

A religion, with its rituals, prophets, messiahs and holy books is a perfect means for consolidating a community of people who wish to follow as closely as possible the life of their heroes. Just like when you take on a new job and the instructor teaches you how to do it, and shows you by example what you also must do to be as good as he is, religion should work to change a person's life and make it to imitate that of the instructors one respects and admires the most.

Those who really follow a religion are willing to sacrifice their life for the same reason that Islamic terrorists are prepared to blow themselves up and fight the infidels. To be coherent and not hypocritical, one who believes that this life is but a blink of an eye, by comparison to an eternal life of happiness, it would make logical sense to martyr oneself and go to paradise.

The question is: If Jesus and the martyr saints are the heroes and models to be emulated by all who believe in the afterlife, why are there so few martyrs among us? Why only one Mother Teresa and not millions? Why so many Christians and Muslims choose to have careers, family, drive cars, travel, take vacations, entertainment, wealth and the good life instead of sacrificing all earthly pleasures, wear sandals and a sack, live on elms and give themselves to asceticism, prayer, and spend their lives helping those who suffer and really want to improve their living conditions, enjoy life and attain happiness on this earth?

Could it be that the religious model of morality is mostly all talk and no action? Could it be that as a form of guidance to live is very impractical and really useless? Could it be that it is a philosophy that worships death (or a life after death) instead of the life we are actually living? And lastly, could it be that, at variance with a philosophy based on reason, if faith-based philosophies were taken to their logical consequence and lived to the fullest, they would indeed produce nothing but sacrifice, poverty and death?

After all, what charity could be done by millions of people like Mother Teresa if everyone converted to practice Jesus’ model of living and lived in absolute poverty, if there were no producers, no people willing to start and run successful multi-million corporations to donate enormous wealth to charitable causes? Since wealth and progress corrupt us, wouldn't a very poor and suffering world be the best way to appreciate the value of life eternal with God?
