Because he is the Son of God that God provided as the sacrifice that washes away the sins of man that exercise faith in that ransom sacrifice. His people are called sheep as sheep are gentle creatures that will follow their shepherd willingly, on the other hand, those who will not follow God and his Son are called goats as they are stubborn and do not willingly follow but want to chose their own course. Right now, Jesus is enthroned with power in heaven as King of the Messianic Kingdom of God and he is ruling in the midst of his enemies, separating the sheep from the goats.

Jesus is metaphorically the "sacrificial lamb" that was slain in behalf of mankind for our sins.

We are metaphorically called "sheep" because sheep follow very easily and closely to their master.

The lamb of God idea comes from the aspect of Jewish culture that a Lamb had to be killed at passover and its blood put on the door.

Christians are sheep because a sheep does NOT think for itself! A sheep completely controlled and doesn't exert its own will!

Rather horrible isn't it!

Not exactly sheep, it's just a metaphor. The sheep are us humans and the pastor that guides us and cares of us is Jesus!

Jesus is called the lamb of God because of what he did for us. He sacrificed himself for all of us, just as the isrealites sacrified their unblemished lambs.

He often spoke in parables and symbols, we are his sheep, because we like sheep wander away from the sheperd.
