Again, I own a Dell laptop running Windows XP home edition. I would gather I can request my software due to the fact I paid the licensing for it. Any thoughts or examples much appreciated...

Ok I have three dell laptops so i have experience.. go to dell.com and do their online chat with a represenative.. tell them you need those backup cd's and they will ship them for free (all cost s&h plus cd's) and the best part is they had mine delievered to my door the next day (had it next day air shiped for free!!)

Computer should come with a reload disk and the all important code-key that comes with it. You can obtain a copy of the disk anywhere but the code-key is what makes it legit. The Equipment dealer should have made that available to you when you purchased the laptop. Microsoft.com can give you an 800 phone number to call and obtain a code to use under some circumstances. I obtained one once when I lost the lable that was to be placed in the computer.

they charge you for it when u buy the machine lol, so def not for free
