I would say the best place to find a pet is at an animal shelter. This is a perfect opportunity to help a dog in need, and make your son happy!

Go to the local animal shelter and save a dogs life. If you don't want an "older" dog , most of them have puppies. Try it , the best dog I ever had and still have came from the pound. I'll go back again when he passes.

There are thousands of animals waiting for homes at the Humane Society or local animal shelters. They are usually considerably less expensive to adopt than buying from a pet store or breeder (and may be spayed/neutered already, or the shelter may have vets names who offer a discount to do it) These animals are they best pets because they are so thankful to have a "forever home." Please consider a shelter animal & help save a homeless pet... (Please note: if you rent, many shelters WILL check w/your landlord before allowing you to take your new family member home to make sure you are allowed to have a pet...)

i would suggest looking on the internet at all of your local rescue groups. there are even breed specific groups if u had a particular breed in mind. otherwise, contact all of ur local shelters (preferably kill shelters) and save a life. it is an amazing feeling to have a dog in ur home and welcome it into ur life. it is even more of an amazing feeling to welcome a dog into ur home and life if u have saved his. good luck finding a dog!! (i could give u a list of 10000000 web addresses for u to look at, but i dont know where u live, so it may just be pointless. try using google to find ur local shelters and rescue organisations).
ps- shelter dogs are amazing little creatures. they are just so happy to have a forever home and so greatful to have someone who loves them . i am the proud owner of rescue and ex-cruelty case pups and they r truly amazing!! good luck! =)

try petfinder.com
Also look in the local paper to find rescue organizations in your area. They have pure bred dogs and mutts of every size and shape. There are also groups that specialize in pure bred dogs if that is what you are interested in.

I'm not sure where you are from, but I adopted my dog from a place called "Canine Angels". You can find their site at canineangels.com, or try petfinder.com which is a broader net work than canine angels.

You can go to SPCA near by your place. They do have a lot of puppy there sometimes you also can get a pedigree there. And you won't know if you never visit there before.
