I haven't heard that. I know that for files with built-in DRM they're pretty tyrannical; they also have something similar to this for the Zune. Everything on the Zune gets wrapped in DRM. But I hadn't heard that about Vista itself. I did find some articles on Vista DRM, but nothing like what you're saying.

Hope this helps.

I did some searching on various tech sites, and there's absolutely nothing like this mentioned on any of them. The hot button regarding Vista DRM is all related to HD content. If you have copy-protected HD content, then the signal must be sent to a device without an analog hole. If you send it to a non-protected device (for example, playing a copy-protected HD DVD and using your DVI output to your monitor) then the signal will be degraded.

However, there is absolutely nothing about files being deleted off your hard drive. It may be that WMP won't play them if you don't have a certificate, and that's how this rumor got started (see http://www.updatexp.com/digital-rights-management.html)

I found a good article (with link to a MS developer talking about DRM) debunking some of the FUD surrounding DRM in Vista:

http://createdigitalmusic.com/2007/01/25/vista-content-protection-drm-wont-impact-music-production-says-microsoft-and-you/

But yeah, at this point I'll say this rumor is 100% BS. It's the music and movie industry's wet dream, but it's not reality yet. And I doubt it ever will be, because MS knows if they tried something like this they'd lose all their home users and many office users. they may be kissing the behinds of the entertainment industry, but they're not dumb enough to shoot themselves to make big media happy.

I bought a new Vista lap top.
I spent 2 days setting it up to
resemble XP. You can do that
by right clicking on the desk top and
then convert the settings back to
XP.
So far it hasn't wiped out any of
my music files, and I don't even save
the licenses. I buy the songs, obtain
the license to open the songs, and
then discard the licenses.

The only problem I'm having with
Vista is the missing recorder link
when I right click on a wav file.

There has to be an answer somewhere.

Good luck to you.

that is true if you don't have a license for your music it will not play, that goes for any copy righted software also, so if you bought it sell it on

If i was you I would move over to Linux.... plus it won't play some original music cd's either

it won't be long be for M$ users will all start dumping windows read the reports on the website below

I do not experience the issue on Vista RC1.

I do not think it is possible as it will violate personal right. Anyway, how Vista tell so anyway. :)

The OS setting up disk should be blanketed which includes your pc. If the OS disk is lacking call the corporation from that you got your pc and ask them to provide you with one.If not ask them what you may do to get a replica of the setting up disk. regardless of the indisputable fact that, immediately maximum organizations contain the O.S re-setting up disk with the completed equipment so i do not imagine you ought to re-purchase yet another replica of the setting up disk.
