Most S-video connections on a laptop are for output to a TV monitor. You cannot import video through this. Normally high speed video is not sent through USB. The snapshots taken with the camcorder can be sent through the USB. Look for another output connection on the camcorder to a firewire connection on a PC. Chances are a laptop will not have the capability to import streaming video. I use a video capture card in my desktop which can use either firewire or S-viedo.

Its possible, but as for how, I'm really not sure, because I havent done it before. However, theres one things I am sure of, and thats if you have a firewire port, use it. Firewire transfers are a lot more versatile and have higher quality than s-video transfers mainly for two reasons: you can control the camera from your computer, and it's digital, so there is minimal if any signal loss. S-video is good, but it's still analog, so there will still be quality loss. And dont use USB, because most miniDV cameras dont support transferring video with it (transferring pictures from an SD card is okay), and even if they do support it, the quality is not as good as firewire. Hope this helps!

Most likely you will not be able to input anything through your computers s-video port. Most, if not all computers use the s-video port for output to either a tv or other monitor. Your camcorder should come with a usb 2.0 or firewire cable.
