I am thinking about getting a tattoo to cover a very ugly c-section scar that i had 17yrs ago! My problem is, it is indented. Do you think i would still be able to get a tattoo to cover it? I also have bad stretch marks around there too. I have other tattoo's, but i have never asked a tattoo artist about this.

It is quite possible to tattoo surgical scars - we do it all the time. In fact, the action of the needling to the skin often releases some of the tightness of scars and actually improves the overall appearance in addition to providing art that would disguise the scar.

"Busy" type designs with a variety of colors or a lot of detail works best for this.

some tattoo artists will and some won't tattoo over a scar. the skin is a different texture and has less elasticity and is different to tattoo. the best thing to do is to consult an experienced artist. the indentation would still be there so if someone looked at it close enough they would be able to see the indentation but hopefully not a whole lot of people get that close to your c-section scar! i have some stretch marks on my back from a growth spurt and i am in the process of getting a full back tattoo. that part hasn't been covered yet but if it was an issue my tattoo artist would have brought it up when he did my outline. good luck with your tattoo!!

Most tattoo artists will not tattoo over a scar. The scar tissue doesn't take ink the way normal skin does.

I have a HUGE apendectomy scar and when asked my artist about tatooing it he said that truthfully he felt it would draw more attention instead of less. Have you thought about doing something to accentuate it, maybe a butterfly or flowers with your child(ren)'s birthday beside the scar. I think this would be very cool considering that it is from a c section.
