Generally, poeple feel "down" for short periods of time in their life, this is natural.
It is when you feel this "Down" feeling for extended periods of time that a person could say that they are depressed or are suffering from depression.
With that said, depression can have a few symptoms consisting of but not limited to sadness, lonelyness, feelings of low self worth.
A person may also have weight loss, broken sleep and when depression is at it's worst, at times be on the virge of breaking down and crying at any given time when they feel overwhelmed by those feelings.
There is always something around the next corner in life that makes you realize that life is good.

Not being able to enjoy yourself, or do the things that you loved doing . No going out with friends any more, just wanting to sit in the house and do nothing. Not wanting to eat, or get up, or do house work, laundary, dishes. Not wanting to do anything that you have always enjoyed. Just losing all interst in most things. Feeling despair, and overwhelmed, sad, lonely, empty, unintersted in anything. That is a few things.

Being sad for no reason, crying a lot, with wanting to sleep a lot, or not being able to sleep due to worrying and anxiety. Or having suicidal thoughts, for sure. Just feeling like everyone hates you, you're a failure- you can't do anything right, or you'd be better off dead. Try going to depression.com for more help.
