He is not u and me right. He is very powerful and influencial.
Powerful in the context means he commands respect with a large section in the society and has influence over them. If anything happens to him u will witness another bandh or violent city.

After all he can only be arressted but cannot be hanged na. And what do u think they will do after arresting him. They will treat him like a Maharaja in the JAIL at our expense. He will surely get out if he wishes to. But in the meanwhile we will have a good number of holidays struck up in our houses glued to tvs. nothing else to do.

In a democracy people should play the role of policing. If u dont like or if u feel he has committed a crime then stand against it and protest against such action. You can always garner support from near and dear and make a difference. Vent your voice to the administration. Dont sit and blame the police or the government. You are a part of it. It is very easy for you and us to sit and chit chat about the incident and express anger at the administration. What did u do to stop him or restrain him from making such comments. Leave alone this guy. What did u do if the corporation does not clean the stink or the garbage for a week in your locality. U just keep thinking and wishing that somebody else would go and complain.

A perfect example to democracy has been set by a municipal constituency of MUMBAI. People there have nominated a candidate of their choice and have elected him as their representative. He is an independent candidate. No affiliation from any party. The people now are to demand work from him for his election to the post. This is what we are required to do. It is our right to get everything which is provided under the Constitution and the Law. We have to demand that from the Government and make them shell out them for the citizens.
