You know, the other responses are good ones, but no one has mentioned the first thing that came to my mind....you could be allergic to your shampoo or conditioner or other hair care products. I'd try switching brands and see what happens, perhaps Dove, which is supposed to be more gentle (although it does have the Sodium Lauryth stuff in it). I used to use Herbal Essence and developed a nasty allergic reaction to it. It took me a long time to realize I was allergic and actually it was my forehead where the reaction was, but it was very similar to what you described, but also reminded me of fish scales, the "dandruff" (aka, dead skin cells, not really dandruff) accumulated on my forehead and was about 1 inch thick! It was driving me crazy, so I went to my dr. and we were trying to figure out what was going on. She asked about my allergies, etc. and beauty products I used. When I mentioned Herbal Essence (and this is NOT knocking that company, I'm just 1 person who developed an allergy to it), she said to stop using it for a few weeks and see what happens. Viola! It was gone!

The point I'm trying to make is that you MAY have an allergy and I would try switching to a gentler line of styling products/shampoo/conditioner and see if it changes or go to a dermatologist.

Good luck!

First of all it is unlikely that you have dandruff.

Nowadays the most common cause of dry itchy scalp which weeps/bleeds is a stress induced fungal infaction.

The cure for this is a medicated shampoo from the doctors.

The most common cause of dry lack-lustre hair however, is another matter. The most common ingredient in a shampoo (any bar a very, very few!) is something called Sodium Laureth Sulfate. This is an industrial strength cleaning agent which is commonly used for floor cleaners where you need grease stripping capabilities which are fast-acting.

Now that you know that think of how shampoo works and why you think a shampoo is good- it foams well and gets dirt out mega-fast, right? Now check the bottle.

Ingredients, by law, are stated in order of percentage contained in the bottle they are on. You will see the first listed is water or "aqua" and then one of two versions- the SLS or a slightly less paint-stripper like one. Either one contain the words Lauryth Sulfate.

THIS stuff, as you can imagine, strips not only our scalps (and makes our dandruff, or, in your case, dry scalp worse) but also dulls and strips the hair.

Avoiding Sodium Lauryth Sulfate is hard. I have only found a couple of shampoos (or body washes) which do not contain it. Some are cheap and the others? Well- they are especially made to NOT contain that confounded stuff and so are dear.

Conditioner is crucial- something like Flex for dry colour treated hair (deep pink lid last time I was able to buy it in the UK) is a very basic but "eggy" conditioner and will "soothe" the scalp and renourish the hair (hair is dead, like your nails but STILL needs nourishing!) to some extent.

BTW- anti-dandruff shampoos only work if: 1) you do not have that fungal infection mentioned up top, 2) it does not contain SLS (bet it does...) and 3) if you HAVE dandruff.

For some, and I am one, it made the scalp a LOT worse.

Another way to overcome dry bleeding scalp- deal with the stress. Perhaps puperty? Perhaps school work? Peer pressure? Stress is bad for skin AND hair. Stress is bad, fullstop...

:-)

Okay well, when you get your hair done at a salon they do not use cheap shampoos. And I'll honestly have to say that because I work at a hair salon. You will not get to a healthy scalp and hair with cheap shampoos. What would be the smartest idea is too go to a salon or a beauty store and get Biolage Moisturizing Shampoo or a non-lathering shampoo, which does not dry your hair, and then get a Schwartzkopf Hair Bonacure Repair and leave in over night and then wash out in the morning like once a week, which will do wonders for you scalp. After all this shampoo is gone and stuff, and your hair is healthy, is would be best to stick with it, but you could get Dove moisturizing shampoo which is relativly nice, and use this.. DO NOT get anything like Herbal Essences or Fructis Garnier, or anything like that, because they all contain a chemical that is used IN 409!!!!! yeah, really bad, that is why the hair and scalp dry so badly.. Hope this helps hun!

My friend, please dont used those herbal essence, panthene, sunssilk...etc those market shampoo is so chemical & silicone base, that will make your hair damaged in long term, but look good at the beginning. what i know know you got a bleeding scalp, then I would suggested you to use some kind of sensitive range hair care products. In my knowledge, you could try Wella SP sensitive lotion and its shampoo. bleeding sclap measn dry scalp, dry scalp normally equal to sensitive scalp.

Beside, the hair would need mositure, so you couls try out Bonacure Smooth shampoo, and Bc moisture leave-ib spray for nourishing your hair purposes.

I'm expert in hair care, belaive me.... :)

Still not sure, than try the following website consultant service, quite helpful..." www.kcareshop.com ~ Ask an Expert! "

I also have really bad dry scalp and dandruff. My beautician suggested using motions shampoo and conditioner. They have a CPR for dry damaged and one that puts more oil into your hair. She also told me to stop using oil sheen's and any oils and sprays that come in an aerosol can. They have alcohol in them and that only serves to dry out the hair and scalp more.
