Next time you go to the dentist, ask him what he/she thinks. And he can tell his opinion in front of your mom.

If it's your mom's money she ultimately has the final opinion to make...sorry to say.
But I do work at a pediatric dentists office. We only work with patients under 18 - those are the ones that are referred out most often to orthodontists so I can give you a couple of hints to get the ball starting.
If it's bothering you first off then your mom needs to know about it. Take good care of your teeth and complain about it all the time. Not nagging, but mention it when you get chance. Next time you go to the dentists office ask about orthodontics/braces. A lot a times dentists can do some kind of retainers to close gaps (it's a diastema between the front teeth) but braces are by far the best option, plus they make your whole smile perfect. If you bring it up he'll talk about it and give you a card, recommendation and let you get the ball started.
As far as braces go I'd recommend going to a orthodontist. They have gone to special schooling after dental school just to make your teeth perfect. They do free consultations to give your family a price range and your options.
Good luck and I hope you get your smile just the way you want it.

How old are you? Your teeth may just need some time to come together. When I was growing up I had a huge gap too, and my mom thought braces would be the best idea. But my dentist told me that as i got older my teeth would naturally come together since i still had teeth to lose and new ones to replace them. By about my freshman year in highschool the gap was gone. Perhaps the same will happen for you, but you should really ask your dentist for the best opinion.

Be careful what you wish for... I had braces for six years and every three to six weeks my teeth hurt for days from going in for adjustments, etc. Not all braces are invisalign.

What you think is a "big gap" could turn out to be a normal size space between teeth. Next time you go to the dentist, ask if they think there is any reason you would need braces. If they think it might be a good idea, ask them to talk to your mother about it. But if they think you don't really need them, be happy with your good dental health.

1. If you are less than 14 yo, then you have not finished maturing the position of your teeth
2. Your Mom might have other priorities for the money, perhaps the costs of schooling you (now and the future), or car running costs, or planning for holidays, or whatever. I don't discuss my finances with my children - it would simply overload them and perhaps concern them unduly.
3. Rather than try and embarrass or coerce her, it would much more responsible of you to ask her to talk it about with you, and find out her deeper reasons. She might appreciate your adult aproach.
4. There may be other ways of closing your gap more easily e.g. composites. Talk to your Mom and the dentist.
5. If for whatever reason you are unable to have it done at your current age, remember it can always be done at a later age when you are earning your own income.

Really you don't need them. My daughter had a large gap in her teeth when she was in her early teens. She didn't have a problem with it until a dentist mentioned that he could fix that if it bothers her. After that it did bother her, but I managed to reassure her that it was not a problem. As she grew older the gap has closed. My mother had a gap in her teeth and is sad that she can't have a gap in her dentures. When it comes to teeth, if you can eat without pain, they are fine.
