Formal shots are of the couple, couple with groom parents, brides parents, all parents, bride groom with wedding party, bride/groom with guys in wedding party, and then girls in wedding party, bride/groom with kids in wedding party, and then groom's family, bride's family, and then if you'd like you can do a huge group photo. Those are the essentials. I think candids are great too.

at the very least, one of the bride before the ceremony, one of the groom, one of each set of parents...one of the bridal party, one of the couple, one as the bride walks down the isle, one as they give each other rings, one as they kiss....those are at the very least...usually one takes as many pics as they can...and then the bride and groom choose the ones they want...or the photographer goes over with them beforehand...exactly what shots they want.....
