I worked as a vet tech for a few years.
You can have your cat neutered between 8-12 weeks, it all depends on how much he weighs. (He has to be a certain weight so that the anesthesia doesn't have an adverse effect on him.) DO NOT wait too long to neuter your cat, it is far less distressing to a young cat then it is to an older cat. Recovery is also easier for a younger cat.

I had my male cat neutered at about 12 weeks I think--but he was a big healthy kitten (and the vet seemed to base the standard on how much a male cat weighs rather than age--something to do with whether he'd be able to handle the aenesthesia). And it's not just male cats who love to wrap themselves around your legs. My current female loves to do that to me (but part of it is that she's dark and I can't always see her in the dark hallways (too cheap to turn on lights if I'm just passing through) or when I'm doing something (like cooking) and don't notice she's almost underfoot, she'll do the leg wrap thing to let me know to be careful and not step on her. When I first got her, I did step on her (she's small, I'm hefty, could have done a lot of damage but we were lucky) and several times almost scalded everyone while trying to not step on her (didn't know she was there) while carrying a pot of boiling water (once I almost went head first out the big bay window because I didn't see her until my foot was coming down right on her so I had to do a fast shuffle but lost control of my feet). After that, I told her it was up to her to let me know she is underfoot and she has chosen to brush my legs to let me know.

So happy for you. Hey, make sure when you take your kitten in that they do a test on him for Feline Leukemia and FIV (it's a single blood test that covers both diseases). That is very important for you to know, if you havent done it already. Especially because you found him as an orphaned kittens. He may easily have been exposed to either one before you got him.

When you start to see his balls coming down at his rear - it is time to neuter him. That is a sign that he is sexually mature. A vet won't usually like to do it before 4 months - at least that was the standard at one time. So I would say that anytime between 4.5 months but not later than 6 months.

I've always thought that cats are a little like kids or vice versa. Kids will touch you if they like you and think nothing of it. Sometimes, it seems to me, cats use their tails in the same way.

It sounds like you won him over. Or he won you over. Check with the vet about neutering, but it's an easier procedure with males. Now, about wrapping himself around your leg...you DID want an aggressive cat, right? That's what you have. They love to attack, and some are much more aggressive than others. Red tabbys are really aggressive. Males are very territorial and very clannish. They may be brutally playful with family members, but you may have to shout, "Don't touch the cat!" at visitors. We had one that would draw the blood of unwary visitors just because...

Male cats are usually neutered between 5-6 months. I was told this by a cat rescue because the male cat's testicles have to be fully descended for surgery.

I think 6 months is a good time to have them neutered. And female cats like to wrap themselves around your legs too!

It depends on the vet, some will not do it before 6 months old. If that is the case you should find another vet. If you wait until he starts spraying he may never stop even after being neutered. If you get him neutered before he will never start.
Now would be the purrfect time to get him neutered.

Usually neutering your cat at 6 months of age is good. As far as wrapping himself around your leg? I think he loves you! It's a sign of affection towards you. Cat's can do the craziest things when they love their human.

once you call her for feeding time, attempt to work out the place she comes from... in case you may, then whilst she's eating flow to the place she got here from and notice in case you will see any kittens, yet do exactly no longer touch them. in case you do she might flow them. in case you need to no longer tell the place she got here from then try following her after she's eaten. If she particularly trusts you, then in case you discover them, she might help you carry them or puppy them. in case you discover them, then while they are older, attempt to socilize them and locate them good residences. and don't concern... in case you catch the kittens quickly sufficient, they gained't be mean in any respect. I actually have a cat that is stray yet her mom likes me. she had kittens and that i found them 3-4 weeks after she had them and that they are actually the friendliest kittens interior the worldwide. they prefer to persist with me around and lick me (the two signs and indications that they have faith me). whether you do no longer catch the kittens until now they are 8-9 weeks previous (weening time), you gets them to be friendly via petting, keeping, and feeding them. (you're able to finally end up getting stratched a pair of times, probable bitten, yet once you do no longer teach which you're scared they're going to found out they might't scare you). All the form to teach them which you care. i be attentive to... I do it each and all the time. I actually have a ton of stray cats that i feed that was once mean yet are not anymore, with me a minimum of.
