I'm not sure what it means to be a religious person. Someone who knows Christ can be affected by evil but in the end the light triumphs, always. Evil comes for good but God is there to answer the threat. The promise is not that we will not encounter evil, it is that we can handle anything through Christ. Evil is answered in this life. You do not have to wait for the next life for Christ to put demons in their place. Faith is multi-layered and the deeper you go the more secure you feel. Christ is real and so when you call, He answers. To be demonized you must invite it by rejecting God, either through neglect or flat out refusal for a relationship. Christ is not the mysterious figure he seems to be. Talk to Him like a best friend and you will be safe.

Also, there is so much rhetoric from the church it can be difficult to discern truth. Just pray in sincerity and he will prove himself to you over and over again.
