What are the pros and cons of the new, Microsoft Vista? Please use simple terms. (Not great with computers). I'm just wondering because I ordered a new computer, and they said it has it automatically downloaded with it.

Pros would be its faster, better graphics, easier to use, more secure.
Cons would be: still a lot of bugs to fix, some programs may not be compatible yet, a lot of system requirements.

The point of Vista is mainly graphics. Everything looks cleaner and sharper than ever before, as well as the way it looks. Go to a computer store and look at one machine running Vista and another running XP (unless you have XP already ) You'll notice the way it looks is the main idea. It's a rather nice upgrade from XP. However...

The cons of this Operating System is that it requires the latest and greatest hardware out there. The more memory the better. A high quality graphics card is required. Also, Vista is brand new. So there will deffinantly be some bugs in it. When a new OS comes out it's always good to wait a little while to see if it will be a success.

However, despite the cons, it's a good system so far.

Congrats on your new computer!

Vista, to start out with, is a memory hog. It takes lots of RAM to run all the eye candy that comes with this operating system.
It will not run legacy drivers (i.e. drivers that have not been digitally signed (approved) by Microsoft. This means that for the computer enthusiast - have to get a new machine.
The tech. bulletins that I read put it this way: "all that Vista has could have been done with a service pack to XP."

Pros: supposedly more secure. Easier for the average user to use.

You will be alright - it is a new computer.

If you're not a gamer, not too much to worry about, the only problem is that there's softwares that wont work properly with vista, so it will depend. if you starting fresh, just buy software made for Vista. I used Vista for a little bit and I like it, but there's still bugs that needs to be fixed.
