thank you for the thumbs down . Although some sugar-free gums contain mannitol which is not efficiently digested resulting in gas , also MASTICATION (chewing) in general stimulates secretions and peristalsis , the major cause of flatulence from both chewing gum and smoking is SWALLOWED AIR !!!

it stimulated peristalsis which is the action that causing the stool to move along in the bowel thus a bowel movement.
