It isn't expensive to adopt children (even very young ones) from foster care - I assume that is what you are referring to when you state "many kids are just sitting and waiting".

1.Why is it that adoption is so expensive?
It costs money to process paperwork, Lawyers can get very expensive. Social workers need to do research on you to make sure you are qualified to take care of a child.
have you ever tried to do a background search? it is time consuming and can get expensive
2. Does anyone think that if you are infertile that the government should assist you with adoption or at least make it affordable in some way.
Absolutly NOT!!! Why is it that so many people think the government should pay for everything they want?
However, the state government already makes it more affordable by absorbing some of the costs of processing if you are adopting a child that is in the foster care system.
3. Why does it have to be so expensive to adopt a child when there are so many couples that can not have kids that would love to have one but can not afford to adopt
If you cannot afford to adopt, what makes you think you could afford to FEED, CLOTHE and Educate a child? Not to mention
HEALTH CARE
Having and caring for a child is expensive, much more than the initial cost of adopting.
4. and....there are so many kids that are just sitting waiting and many that will never get adopted.
Many Children that "Sit and Wait" to be adopted are children with special needs. some are physically handicapped and some are mentally handicapped.
Most people want an infant, not an older child or one that needs special care.
Its very sad that these children have to wait their childhoods out in Foster Homes waiting to be adopted but those people who choose to foster special needs children are themselves VERY SPECIAL in my book.
Maybe you should think of Fostering before you consider adopting. It is a little easier to become a foster parent than an adoptive parent.

I understand where you're coming from. We could afford to care for another child a day at a time, but not the large fees to adopt in a standard way. The one nice thing that US is doing is a credit of up to $10,000 for adoption. Pres Bush signed it and it will be in the tax law until 2010 unless it becomes permanent law. It's a help!

I think that if you go through Social Services, it's cheaper. I think it depends on the laws in your state. You might try to contact them where you live and see if there's anything that they can help you with. Good luck on your search.

I think it's to ensure that you will infact care for the child and not use them for other purposes.
