I was hoping maybe somebody had an explanation for my dogs strange behaviours.

1. At terribly random times, she will start "swimming" on her back across the carpet, she will start by rubbing her nose, then face on the carpet then she will turn over and swim all over the house on her back. This commonly occurs after she’s been given a yummy snack. Any idea why?

2. When you lightly blow on her face she starts getting hyper and runs around the house at unbelievable speeds for several minutes. Why?

3. She is constantly hopping like a kangaroo, sometimes for no reason. Will this affect her joints when she gets older?

4. When I howl she starts to howl back at me and she tries to lick inside my mouth, does this mean anything? (She only does this when I howl, and yes I know it's silly to howl)

5. When she does something bad, like tipping the garbage over, or forgetting to ask to go outside, she lies on her back and shows me her genitals (she only does to me). What does this mean?

You don't happen to have a heeler, do you? My red heeler does some of this.

1. The swimming, on the part of my dog, is itch relief. It's usually an ear itch, but it could be somewhere else. Try changing treats and see if this still occurs--it may be an allergy. (Of course, it could just be an excited response to having gotten a treat!)

2. I can't really explain this one. The most I can figure is that the dog is trying to get the feeling of the blown air off of her face, or trying to show her speed and power and thus regain her power over you! Some dogs see this as you instituting your power over them.

3. Hopping. Some dogs are just hoppy! This MAY affect her joints. Make sure you keep her on a healthy diet and at a reasonable weight, and things should be okay.

4. She's trying to talk to you with the howling. That's actually pretty cute. The mouth thing is a bit harder--maybe she's trying to make you feel better, as howling is often a warning or a sign of pain/sadness in dog world.

5. Well, this is just a theory, but it could be that she's showing that she is female and therefore not as punishable as she would be if male. In SOME wild dogs, the females are not the fighters like the males are.

Well it sounds to me like your dog rubs across the floor to scratch her back she does not have hands to do so.Also running around the house or being over excited for a snack is usual it is the way they show excitement my dog does it when i spray his cologne on him. When you blow in their face they get hyper because it feel funny to them.If she is a big dog hips may give her a problem in the future but she may grow out of hopping. The howling and licking inside your mouth is kind of territorial she is looking at you as a dog a spouse someone she can trust at the same time she`s showing her dominance you women tend to do that often. She lies on her back after doing something bad because she know`s she did wrong and scared of your reaction they tend to hide also.Well I answered these questions to the best of my knowledge I was a Veterinary Technician for 3 years I hope the answers helped.

1. Shes scratching her back. She might have some dry skin, or just enjoys the feeling. Like getting a massage
2. Most dogs do that... they don't really care for getting blowed in the face. But, explain why they love to hang their heads out the car window? LOL
3. She's energetic and loves the freedom. When she gets older and it hurts her joints, she won't do it anymore. Be glad she's healthy and feels great!
4. Also part of being energetic and feeling good. When you howl, you're being a part of her pack. Dogs are pack animals and you're speaking her language, even if she can't understand it. Licking is a sign of love, affection and/or submission.
5. Another sign of submission. Like saying "I'm sorry, I know I screwed up. Please don't hate me." She's unprotecting and revealing her most vulnerable spot... her belly.
You're dog doesn't have strange behavior... sounds like she's just happy, healthy and in a loving home.

She LOVES you! She's showing submission and the rolling on her back and squirming thing is a scent thing. she wants to get her scent all over your stuff, and get your scent all over her. It's not unusual. she loves you and is over joyed to see you and be with you!! licking your mouth is a submission thing too. don't blow in her face. that's annoying to her. put the trash can up, or teach her stay away from it. she knows you don't like that. she's asking for guidance. what breed is she? she sounds like a little girl very eager to please. and just wants you to show her what you expect. just a little discipline is all she needs! NO is probably all she needs when in the trash. but don't make a big deal about pooping! don't scold her!! Just make more of an effort to help her. Read her signs. she may just simply sit by the door when she needs to go. it's up to you to see her do this.

Laughing! You are a great owner! I can see there is a special bond between you. #1 they just itch that way. 1-4 is normal and only thing I can suggest is to get your camara ready for "Funniest Home Videos"! #5 is a sign of subbmission. They do this when they submit and know they done wrong. (thats a good thing) I'm happy to see a wonderful owner that makes their dog this happy!

1. probably self gratification to replacebeing petted. try touching her by rubbing after giving her a treat.

2. slight irratation from the tickle effect

3. may give her problems. try to give her a joint product such as springtimefresh.com

4 howling is group activity. you are part of the pack. licking your mouth is a sign of respect/acknowlwedgement of your higher status. same thing a pup does to get food from its mother

5 same as 4 by showing her most venerable part the belly she shows a lack of dominance to you.

Aww, these aren't strange! They are totally normal for a happy, perky, excited puppy. Some dogs are puppies at heart until they are in old age. The other answers are really good.

it sounds like your dog may not be getting enough exercise and that exess energy has to go somwhere. when she shows you her genitals she is submitting to you because you are the alpha dog.
