Just having the smoke in your mouth puts you at risk for cancers of the mouth. And even though you are not inhaling, you are still around the smoke and getting the second hand (unfiltered) smoke which still puts you at risk for lung cancer. I doubt that you have a cancer this soon if you have only been doing this for a while. The sore on the tongue and the sore throat is probably just a sign of irritation. Your body is trying to tell you that the cigarettes are hurting it, so listen to your body.

It is most likely an Apthous ulcer , from the heat of the smoke . If you do not inhale , you save yourselfa lot of the side effects ,like those on the lungs and heart . The smoke itself might cause damage and sometimes cancer to the mouth and throat ,but this takes a very long time of "puffing" like 20 or 30 years to happen .
I think you should stop , because a lot of people start out just 'puffing'
Also
puffing makes you fart a lot and bad BO and mouth odor .

Cancer of the mouth. I kid you not. Cut it out, smoking is dangerous whether you inhale or not. Some of the most disturbing pictures I have ever seen are pictures of peoples' mouths that smoke cigars or cigarettes or chew tobacco and have mouth/tongue cancer, and it starts out just like you wrote.

Even without actually inhaling, you stll have that smoke in your mouth, which can cause mouth cancer, mouth ulsers and other problems, so if you don't really smoke, then I would advise not to light up a cigarette anymore, even if you only do that around your friends.

while not inhaling the effects of the cigarette smoke is clear. Your imune system is down from the nicotine and it is Obvious that you have a mouth ulcer and it is not healing because of the smoking. I suggest you stop smoking and apply vasoline onto the ulcer to protect it. If not healed within 2 weeks see a doctor.

DUDE FIRST OFF AS AN EX SMOKER... STOP SMOKING. ITS A TERRIBLE HABBIT TO HOLD. JUST BY INHALING A CIGARETTE YOU CAN GET CHEEK, TONGUE, THROAT AND MOUTH CANCER. NOT TO MENTION YELLOW TEETH AND BAD BREATH AND BAD SKIN. SMOKING CAUSE MY SKIN TO BREAK OUT I HAVE NOT HAD A BREAK OUT SINCE I QUIT SMOKING. YOU CAN ALSO DEVELOP IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE ALLERGIES AND ASTHMA. BE THE COOL ONE OUT OF YOUR FRIENDS AND NOT SMOKE ITS GROSS AND HORRIBLE FOR YOUR HEALTH. SHOW YOUR PARENTS THE SPOT ON YOUR TONGUE AND GO SEE A DOCTOR IT COULD BE SERIOUS AND IF SO YOU WANT TO CATCH IT IN EARILY STAGES.

you might be not dragging on the cigarette, but you're still breathing, and inhaling the fumes. this is the same as second hand smoking, and is just as harmful. the thing on your tongue is probably a reaction to the cigarette smoke.

Honey you probably have a little ulcer on your tongue( it'll be gone in a day or two), but please leave cigarettes alone. So many people I love are in the graveyard because of them. Maybe this is your wake up call. I'll be praying for you !!!!!!!!!

Firstly I recommend you seeing a doctor regardless of your smoking habits. Secondly, the likeliness of uninhaled puffing causing problems is so minimal you've got more chance of having issues with a homicidal chicken coup.

Any contact with cigs can cause harm. If you are not inhaling, just don't light at all. The fact that you are even intaking your friend's second hand smoke is toxic to your health. Infact second hand smoke is worse than first hand.
