It's terrible for them to say something stupid like that. I don't know why someone is born deaf, or with any other condition. I would venture to guess that no human does. I guess the best way to react is to chalk it up to their ignorance and try not to pay attention to them. (I know this is much easier said than done.) Perhaps we are all born a certain way for our lessons in life, but that's only a theory, too. Maybe it's just genetic luck. Whatever the reason, your son is lucky to have a family to love and support him. Just continue to do what you're doing and avoid the people who have no business injecting their theories on your lives. I hope you find only good things, such as health, happiness and peace.

First of all, I'm sorry that someone under the guise of a "Christian" has said such hurtful things to you. Your son was not born deaf because of your lack of faith. I'm not sure the exact Bible passage, but there was a man who was born blind and Jesus healed him and the disciples asked Him whose sin caused this, and He answered neither. I'm sure smacking them would feel really good, but try not to let their lack of class upset you and focus on the gift that God gave you in your son.

I think those people should seriously reconsider calling themselves Christians. Number one, God tells us not to judge. Number two the bible says every good and perfect gift is from above. I bet you would think your son is a pretty good gift from God. No one has the answer for why some are healed and some are not. If we did, we would all have a magic formula and know just what to do when we wanted a prayer answered. It certainly isn't because you didn't have enough faith. I'm amazed you haven't smacked them yet! Seems like you are more Christian-like than they are :)

I know of no where in the Bible where it says believe and you will hear.. For anyone to say that is stupid and they don't understand the condition of this world. bad things happen here because the whole earth is contaminated by sin. If it was perfect nothing like this would ever happen... I am sorry you sin can't hear. Is it fair, NO. Did he sin and cause it or did you, NO... But the fact that the world is contaminated by sin causes terrible things to happen to us all. For one we will all die. That's pretty bad. and we die because of sin. Some children have Downs. Did the deserve it, NO.. It's not the child not the parents but the whole rotten world that has caused these terrible problems... Now what will you do with it, blame God for something that wasn't His doing or work and make a blessing out of the handicap... Your choice Jim

Although it is hard, turn the other cheek. As a Christian, the best thing to remember when somone says this is, "Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they are doing" You know that this is not true, and that is all that is important.
Dont ever let your son believe that it is true either. As long as you know it is not true, then just try to let the unloving, ungodly comments go. It is not a lack of faith to have a deaf child, it is a blessing that you will learn many lessons from. This, probably being one of them.

I'd say yes.
When my cousin died, some idiot Christian told my aunt that my cousin died because she wasn't baptised, that she was going to hell, and that anyone who put anything in the coffin with her (everyone was putting small things in, like pictures) they would die too and go to hell with her.
I mean... seriously, what kind of person says that to a Christian mother (she believed that her daughter had the right to grow up and make a choice on if she wanted to be baptized or not) when her child is lying in a coffin in front of her?
This is the "love" that Christians talk about? If I had been there and heard this, I'd have attacked the wench that said it and sent her to the hospital.
She terrified my aunt so badly that my aunt practically attacked the coffin and started pulling all those pictures and things out. It took almost 24 hours to convince her to let us put them back in.
Nasty nasty nasty thing for a person to say to a grieving mother.

I'm sorry people made that assumption friend. If your son was born deaf, no one has the right to blame it on you. Some people who claim to be Christians and make statements like that tend to give those that really want to be good Christians a bad name.

You should tell the truth, that such statements are hurtful, and untrue. Furthermore that you will ignore such mean-spirited attempts to convert you to christianity by false guilt.

On behalf, of all the real christians out there, I want to apologize, this is just awful. Im so so sorry, Im a christian woman, and I know that this is not true, and I know if they are saying this to you, they are not real christians at all.
I work with disabled people, and I work with several deaf men and women.
I will tell ya this, I got out a church, about 11 yrs ago, and something terrible happened to my 2 daughters....I was told by SOME so called christians that this happened, because I was not in church at the time..all this did was push me further away from God..I was so hurt and furious. SInce then I have found my way back to God, and I know with all my heart...that this was not true, and that is not why that happened to my girls, It was just life.
Some of these people that told me this, have since had the same thing happen to there daughter, and some other bad things have happened to some of the others..We have to really watch what we say to people, and what we do to people...
"Vengence is mine sayeth the Lord, I will repay". This is God saying he will handle things in his own way, and trust me he will. People that have hurt me and my children, God has taken care of them.
I know it makes you want to slap them...the Bible does say turn the other cheek...But Im not gonna proclaim to be the best of all christians...I know that Im only human, so Yes, I would probably knock the livin heck out of them...
God would understand...I bet.
Keep yourself away from people like this, if they come around you, tell them to get out of your life, that they are not showing you what our Real GOD is like..they are not living examples...tell them that.
I sure hope this helps...Hun, dont ever believe what they are saying, they are evil people...
Just try not to go around them...I know its hard...but I promise you, People cant live like that, and not pay for what they have said...God is listenining and watching...
Im so so sorry..Im here if you need to talk...
