God did not give humans words, language developed as a neccessity to human beings.
Or you could say. God gave us words so that humans can understand each other and reverse the Tower of Babel thing.

Oh. I guess I shouldn't just give you my flip answer then. (It was: so you can ask Him when you get to Heaven!) Now, for real, I'll say that He wanted us to be able to communicate with one another on very deep levels. So, by speech (or sign language, if you can't speak or can't hear) we can discuss abstract concepts that other "lesser" animals just don't get -- theological things and philosophical things and other advanced stuff. We are made in God's image, so careful communication is part of that.
There. Run with that or let that spur you in another direction. Have fun and enjoy this essay. That's a really good subject your teacher picked.
