Can anyone tell me that assisted suicide is a bad thing?

Because there are people out there who's lives are, quite literally, unbearable.
Even the ability to take their own lives is denied them because of infirmity or other circumstance.
In this case, they need help to end their pain and misery. To deny them this right, and yes it is a right, is to continue the torture and misery that they live with each and every day.
In fact, many civilized nations endorse Doctor assisted suicide. And now Switzerland, has gone to the next logical step.

I for one applaud the Swiss and hope that other nations follow suit.

I guess I should have been more specific. My bad. I hadn't counted on the stupidity of many of you.
I should have asked "Can anyone give me a RATIONAL reason why assisted suicide is a bad thing?" so that would have shut most of you up.

no, assisted suicide is not wrong. if someone really cant bear living anymore, why not help them end the pain? i mean if we can put animals to sleep because of broken legs and stuff why cant we do the same for people? or are you trying to tell me animals have more rights then ppl? besides, ever heard of dr. kavorkian? i personally think him being in jail is wrong. but as long as religious people have a say with our government, things like assisted suicide will always be wrong no matter the circumstances.

One, the way your question was stated I could have answered: Assisted suicide is a bad thing. So you might wanna change that.

I believe that assisted suicide should be legal. However, there must be guidelines. These guidelines must include, that two independent doctors much be consulted, there must be two witnesses, a verbal and written notice must submitted by the patient, and a phsycologist must be present to determine that the patient is sound of mind and mentally stable enough to make the decision.

I'm not in the situation, like some folks are, but I for one, do not approve of assisted suicide. I don't agree with suicide, it's giving up, throwing in the towel, quitting. Life sometimes means pain, but it's still life, more than all those in the graveyard have.

Also, assisted suicide, is a system run by people, and people being people, any system is subject to abuse...except with the abuse of this system, people die.

Doctors are sworn to defend the lives of their patients, to try and make them better, I don't feel comfortable with the idea that they also get to decide quality of life, and dispense death.

I believe it is a bad thing because I believe suicide is a sort of unforgivable sin. No, suicide is a faithless act that basically says "God I dont care about what you want for my life, I just want to end it."

Just because someone is unable to do that which is wrong doesnt mean they should be helped and it certainly doesnt mean they have the "right." I may have the FREEWILL to committ murder and do drugs, but I do not have the RIGHT to. If people want to do that which is wrong, they do so at their own peril. To make laws to condone that which is wrong simply because people have lost the ability to do it on their own doesnt speak very highly of a nation at all, especially Switzerland.

Is pain and suffering fun? No it isnt. Did most of us ask for the pain and suffering we have and will suffer throughout life? No. But its part of that unwritten agreement each of us signs before we enter this life that we are responsible for the curses of sin and the bad things that come our way. Our character as well as our relationship with God is defined by how we handle these things. Suicide is the faithless way to go in any situation.

The human society and moral or religious believes are sometimes contradictory.
Is OK to send to sleep a suffering dog or cat but is in-moral to make the same thing to a person in an horrendous suffering. A few years a go I lost a family member who die of cancer, believe me the eventually dead was a relive for the person and for family. No one deserves such punishment, especially if the person was an extraordinary human being.

It's not bad and I have absolutely no objection. Part of my reason being is that I have personally known people who were terminally ill, I know how much pain and suffering a person can go through. it is not a pretty way to go. We put our dogs and cats to sleep when they are in pain due to being terminally ill, why do we deny out fellow humans the same right if they wish it? It's inhumane to allow people to suffer like that against their wishes.

The reason the Bible suggests that it is wrong is that no matter how much they are suffereing it is better than hell. It s also still murder for the one assisting. I Timothy 1:9 "...law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers" As long as you don't believe in God then you can rationalize anything, but as soon as God comes on the scene there are moral values at stake.

I think it is a very good thing. Every day and night I pray for someone to come along and murder me, to end my miserable existence. I am afraid to ask doctors because I don't want to put them into an uncomfortable position but I still want them to do it. I will not be happy so long as one cell in my despicable body is still alive. I have insanity, a disease far worse than the ailment of anything else and I would like to cease consciousness as to not think about your ugly world anymore.

Self-Euthanasia is my only dream!

Probably the worst thing about assisted suicide is that you can't be 100% sure that it's what the patient wants. Especially someone with mental illness.

I agree with you... we all "own" ourselves. Each of us has the right to live our own lives or end them. It is awful to force someone to suffer when they have made peace with death and want nothing more but to end their pain. I am not talking about depressed people here, I am talking about people who are dying, suffering, and want their pain to end. I think it is absolutely SICK that people protest this because they think it is "sin" to commit suicide. NEWSFLASH, Christianity isn't the religion of everyone. I hope each of those people find themselves in the same position of of misery that the people asking for the right to die are in.
