At this point I would worry about infection in the wounds that is causing your pup to smell. I'm really surprised that the vet or shelter didn't bathe her before the surgery. I would reccommend calling an emergency vet (the 24 hr ones) and getting their advice. They are there for those kinds of things when you cannot get a hold of your normal vet. Hope this helps!

What you are smelling is the anesthesia and cleansing meds used to prep her. Don't bathe her! It can cause problems in the incisions. If you want to run a clean damp rag around her ears and on areas that you notice it the most, that should be OK. As, long as it's not the operation site. Don't submerge her in water. Give it time and the smell will wear off. If not, wait until she is healed. A general rule of thumb is 5 - 7 days after. I would wait the 5 days then ask the vet. Just let her rest for now!! And love her LOTS!!

unfortunately shelters don't give baths before surgery . they just prep the area they are working on. there is possibility of infection. look for redness and swelling in the areas of the 2 surgeries. also feel the areas. are they HOT? if they are, you need to go to an emergency clinic. tell them that the shelter did the surgeries. then, hopefully you won't have to pay up front, like they usually make you do. on a weekend like this, when most vet's are closed is when every thing goes wrong. just call an e clinic and tell them what's up. just make sure it's the surgery areas you are smelling and not just the dog. the dog can be cleaned up later. call now!!

If the Stitches already been few days. You can bath your dog. And you must find out whether it was skin issue to make the smell or other. Or you can change the food to your dog. If really a skin issue you should consult your vet immediately.

There may be a infection causing the smell, It could be her skin from food allegies and other allergies, bad skin puts off fishy smells. Have it checked out with your local vet and to be sure. I would make a appointment. Try using a Aloe and Oatmeal shampoo.

omg. how can they not be reached. my vet is on call 24-7
use a triple antibiotic ointment on her stiches. just pat it on. do not rub. wipe her face and body that is not stiched with with some warm water and human conditioner. do not use human shampoo, and do not use a dry dog shampoo that can get dust into the stiches. just sponge mop her. the contact will also make her feel more comfortable. she should start to smell and feel better soon. and make sure she is drinking water.

I think it's normal for your dog to emit smells after any kind of traumatic event. Part of it nerves. Part of it is that her guts were exposed. I would definitely wait at least a week before bathing her - allow her time before a traumatic event, plus, the smell she may be emitting may subside a bit. But you still may want to give her a bath. Just wait a few days.

Look at the surgery sites to see if either of them are red, oozing or smellly. If either of those areas look like they might be infected, you need to take her to an emergency vet now.
If they aren't, call your vet tomorrow morning. Most vets have office hours on Sat.
To be completely safe, if it were my dog, I'd call the emergency vet and see what they say.

Get some waterless shampoo at the grocery and clean your puppy avoiding the sutures. It could be anal glands that need to be expressed. If the waterless shampoo does not help then i would contact your vet on Monday

this is a dogs natural instinct when they get hurt. They release a fume that makes them smell like the city dump.
if she still has this in 5-6 days call a different vet
