I am only 24 but have had some health problems and a bad case of anxiety over the last 5 years. I got really scared when I was 19 and got saved when I was in the hospital.I used to wonder if I was "really saved" because of the location and cirsumstances, but now I feel God put me there and put me in that situation to make me realize I needed him. But the thing I am wondering is, why am I afraid of death if I am Christian and know that if I die I will go to Heaven? Is there something wrong with me? How can I work on this? I think about it all of the time. I just keep thinking that something could happen to me any minute and I dont want it to. I wanna be here until I am old and gray. It really consumes my mind and everything I do.How can I trust God more and find a way to overcome this fear of death? Thanks :)

Well, It sounds like to me that you just need a closer walk with God, we all can use to get closer. but the closer you get the less fear you have , I used a night light for years, and I'm 51, recently I had a heart attack, and open heart surgery, and then to top it off they put me in a helicopter, I had to go- nothing else to do, I totally gave it to God , I started reading a purpose driven life excellent book, by Rick Warren, Ive really been given this book a good plug, try it out its at the library, write me at shashonah55@hotmail .com, if its not at the library ask for it, I have the cd,s too. I love you hang in there. ill pray for you. su

Wouldn't it have been more impressive if god had prevented your health problems altogether? Wouldn't glowing good health -- especially in a young person -- make for better PR?

Everybody is afraid of death, sweetie. When you come to grips with the fact that it will happen when it happens, then your fears will be gone. Anyway, at your age, I'd be more scared of missing out on all that life has to offer. So get out there and live, already.

Although I am a Buddhist, I can tell you that everybody has a period of fearing their mortality. Christian or not , you are human and this is normal, to let it consume your every waking thought is not. People tend to individualize death, therefore making it more frightening, remember, no one escapes death, you are not alone. It is inevitable, so there is no point in worrying about something you cannot prevent. If you continue to be consumed by this, consider talking with your minister or a psychiatrist. Sometimes these thoughts are signs of depression and can be eased with counseling and/or medication.

Because they have implanted the thoughts of hell fire into your mind, as a believer in the afterlife through a christian percpective.

Christianity implants hope in the next life in exchange for hopelessness in this life. Christianity implants negativity.

Listen I use to have the same feelings. I know its terrible. Just that you have to come to terms with it. And most people on planet earth dont believe in a Hell fire or a punishment. Christians are no where near the majoirty.
It had consumed me for some 15 years. Fear of death, hell fire, gods wrath, even though I was a christian - I just was worried incase I ended up in hell etc, or died suddenly
Leaving christianity is the only hope

Everyone is afraid of death wether they are a christian or not, its called being human. To help you get through think about all the good things and not the bad. Live your life day by day and if you know your going to heaven then you don't have anything to worry about. I hope nothing does happen to you until you get older and I hope my advice helps you at least a little.

I is ok to have fear of death.I am 64yrs old and look at death differently than when I was a young man.Every person thinks about her/his mortality.Part of what you say is founded in Western Christianity's emphasis on salvation and damnation.I find peace because I have accepted my mortality. To some young people each day is like a penny. To an older person each day is like a golden coin.

It is perfectly normal to fear death, even if you are a Christian. I always pray that God will be with me and give me the courage to face death when it comes. He knows that I am afraid of many things, even getting ill or receiving bad news about someone I love. I always pray for help. That's all we can do.

"I feel God put me there and put me in that situation to make me realize I needed him"

God made you sick to save you? Did you read that when you typed it?

I'd say that religious people preyed on your fear and weakness to convert you.

Anyway, if you do die there are a couple of options:
- christian god exists and you life eternity in happiness
- no gods exist and no afterlife and you'll never know
- some other god was the right one, depending on which god you're either boned or you could be ok.

So I wouldn't worry, chances are you'll be either OK or oblivious.

People are always scared of that unknown. You know you are going to Heaven, but you are not 100% certain. If you were, death would not concern you. You are attached to things here...people, toys (house, car, and money count under this), etc.

Leave all that behind, and focus on God.

It is human nature to fear death. You will pass away when God wants you to, and that naturally makes everyone fear death. Yhe biggest fear for people is leaving their families. Everyone fears death. There is nothing wrong with you just because you fear leaving this earth. Just pray and ask God to forgive you of your sins, and truly believe in Him.
