Within a few years the industry standard will be for all cars to have an immobilizer (chip built into the key making it much more difficult for thieves to steal).

Assuming that that criminals always look for ways to cheat the system and also assuming they will find ways to adapt, will this lead to more high risk crimes like car jackings, home break-ins, etc. and therefore have a negative impact on society in the bigger picture?

More than likely it will. But it will also lead to people being more aware of there surroundings. I'm more worried about the police than the criminals. Imagine how they will treat certain people because of how they dress or look. If a white man is in the Ghetto, he must be buying drugs, if a black man is in a high class neighborhood , he must be trying to steal something. More police beating i think...Look right now the news is on...Damn another cop just shot a kid cause he was reaching for his Asthma Pump!!!! I'm sorry what did you say about criminals and high risk crimes?

Smarter and smarter devices are coming that will make all crimes witnessable. Soon it will be nearly impossible to beat the system and people will have to raise their kids and society will be raising their kids responsibly. The criminals will be going to jail. It is gonna get hairy for a while til everybody understands the rules.

In some way, but it will also develop a smart breed of criminals. Just like everything else, when you invent a way to stop bad guy, the bad guys figure away around that system.
