It is important because you need others to live in this world and others offer different points of view.Close-minded people are dead to growing mentally in any way.Every one is wrong some times and needs an open mind to realize it and grow in intelligents

Actually, there are some disadvantages, if you are opne minded. However there are more advantages to it. If you are open minded, you can be your own teacher and learn things from world.
You can know yourself. Thereby you can be more happy.
