Most educated people do not have these thoughts but there are a few and these are the ones that cause the commotions, Because it is far easier for them to just beleive what they here and accept as it is too taxing for them to read a book about another religion.

At least the people on Yahoo are just speaking. Hopefully none of them will strap bombs to themselves and blow up any innocent person that was unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The extremists like Bin Laden are a fact and there are more than anyone wants to admit, otherwise they all would have killed themselves by now and the world could have some peace.
May God Bless you.

When you use the word people, I think you are referring to the USA. Now like Muslims we are not all the same. Look at the people of Iraq some are trying to make a free life. but some would rather repress there fellow man. How about the Pope, he said something about Muslims, some may have been offended but some not. I would say the group that shot the Catholic Nun in the back of the head are bad people. There are a lot of US Army men and woman fighting to make a free country for Iraq. So please don't be so closed minded about the "people"

I'm going to try to put this as nicely and delicately as I can.....
Not every Arab or Muslim person is evil. I know there are plenty of good people in this world who happen to be Muslim, including friends of mine. But unfortunately, Islam itself is NOT a religion of peace at all. It means "submission" and that's exactly what it is about. You say the Qu'ran forbids violence and teaches peace, and people like al-Sadr or UBL are misinterpreting it or distorting its message when they preach violence and murder. I would argue that on the contrary, they are doing exactly what the Qu'ran tells them to. There's no real way to misinterpret these instructions. They're pretty clear and specific, especially regarding Jews and Christians. Here are just a few of them:
[Shakir 5:51] O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.
[Yusufali 9:29] Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
Volume 4, Book 52, Number 177:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."
Volume 9, Book 89, Number 271:
Narrated Abu Musa:
A man embraced Islam and then reverted back to Judaism. Mu'adh bin Jabal came and saw the man with Abu Musa. Mu'adh asked, "What is wrong with this (man)?" Abu Musa replied, "He embraced Islam and then reverted back to Judaism." Mu'adh said, "I will not sit down unless you kill him (as it is) the verdict of Allah and His Apostle
Volume 5, Book 59, Number 425:
Narrated Anas:
"We are those who have given the Pledge of allegiances to Muhammad for to observe Jihad as long as we live."
You see I WAS trying to find out more about Islam and its real message. Clearly it doesn't preach peace and reject violence in these instances at least.

Yea right!! The more I learn about Muslims the more I realize they are all mostly extremists. They are taught from childhood to hate, kill, and destroy. It's time to wake up and see the truth before your eyes. This evil will never go away until you take the blinders off and look around at the world and current events. Then call darkness what it is, EVIL.

Thank you!
I have been trying to allay the fears of the unwashed / uneducated trailer park trash that post such questions for weeks!!!
great to see I'm not alone in my quest for Peace, Love, Compassion and Understanding!
"Extremists like Bin Laden...." are only the product of the Media who have an agenda....politics and money-grubbing greed are their primary motivations usually!
My "way" is to share what I understand of the Buddha's teachings. His main idea was to allow forgiveness and compassion to rule your life. In this way, you'll become happy and will be able to rise above pettiness such as exhibited here. If you're able to express this outwardly, you'll be able to affect others with those qualities and maybe - just maybe - they'll adopt a similar way of being with the world.
It's all about taking responsibility for your own actions. or so I believe.
Love and Light,
Jarrah

I'm Christian, and I'm not afraid of such things, even at all. "Hell" isn't really taught in the Ancient Greek, either. Evil spirits are taught about, but not in the ways people think, and they are only represented in our physical existence by the dynamics of the ignorance among mankind. No boogie man stories, there at all. The Hebrew old testament does in fact teach of spiritual creatures, both good and evil. However, the story goes in the same likeness. Hell is merely "the grave", and negative spiritual influences are limited in access to the physical realm of existence to mere and mainly only influences in the obviously enough very real world of the ignorance of mankind.

Yes, people are closed minded. Seems separating fact from fiction is something Christians and Muslim have in common and is present in several religions.

Well, could you please educate us? I am interested in learning more about all kinds of people. There are a lot of things about Muslims I don't understand -- like the shariya (sp?) laws where women can't even leave a burning building if they wake up in the middle of the night and they're not wearing their abiyah. So I'm not trying to be inflammatory, but there are many things I don't understand about Muslims. Please help me relieve myself of my ignorance.

People are lazy. They get their information from the media. I'm sure you know how Muslisms are portrayed. That's the only way a lot of people are exposed to Muslisms, because most people are not interacting with Muslisms on a daily basis where they could learn that all are not terrorists.
