Willing to listen to others' views and beliefs. Open to allow others to keep their beliefs.

In various contexts, it could mean "willingness to consider any idea, at least momentarily" or "refusal to believe anything whatsoever." But I'm more inclined to go with the former. Some people have trouble getting the distinction, but that's too bad.

I would definitely value openmindedness under essentially all circumstances. Even something like Naziism should be considered and evaluated momentarily for whatever value it might have, then dropped anyway for having none. It's kind of like how science and the criminal justice system work; hopefully that makes sense.

An open mind is that which is willing to consider various points of views but has been around enough to have developed mind "filters" that let this open mind see the facts and judge things for what they are, without any type of biases.

Remove those filters and what's left is not an open mind, but a modeling-clay, gullible mind.

Well it can been done with a hatchet or a surgeons drill but I would bet you are speaking of the wide open mind of Christian intelligence aren't you? It would mean like when a Big Bang is heard in the vicinity it suddenly get nervous like a disturbed clam and start to close. Then suddenly at the slightest whisper of evolution it snaps shut like a clam. Then it takes a pot of boiling water and a pointed object pressed against the hinge to pry it open again. Oh but then they have departed to their la la land of eternity.

I would loosely define an open-minded person as someone whose views on a particular subject does not cause them to be generally negative on relevant evidence that either contradicts or does not support their view.

But notice the key: RELEVANT EVIDENCE

You know. nothing says you have to be open minded to anything or anyone. Open minded is just a state of listening and accepting what you hear, see or others think. Doesn't mean you have to be such.

Willing to analyze and consider new information.

Most however confuse being open minded with considering anything possible. That isn't being open minded, that is being gullible.

Being open minded means different things to different people.

For me, it means my not being judgemental of what other people do, act, say, or how they live.

Judge not lest ye be judged?

Realizing and accepting that "my way" is not THE way to live.
