any old hard leftover bread or crackers.... not dogfood, though.

Go to Kentucky fried Chicken or Wingers the use the bone that are left over break them in two and place the minnow trap white bread and Berkley power bait cat or dog food will also work good luck

My favorite minnow trap recipe is white bread, canola oil, and mackerel chunks and juice. First, I tear about 15 slices of white bread, the put it in a plastic bag. Then I dump a can of mackerel in the bag, juice and all. Then I splatter the mackerel and white bread with canola oil. I've been using this recipe for 35 years. Guaranteed to work.

Cracker crumbs or bread crumbs are usually used.
