Me: Why did typical southern white Christians during the
1950's hate blacks even though they were taught in church to love their neighbors?

Christians: Oh, just because we're Christian doesn't mean we're perfect! Everyone has their own imperfections!!

Oh, let me straight. Lynching colored people was a result of imperfection? I'm afraid to ask what kind of tragic things real imperfections would cause..

Me: Why did the Christians that came to North America (yes, Christopher Columbus was Christian) justify the rape, murder, and slavery they enforced upon the Native Americans by saying that they were doing it for the "glory of God?"

Christians: Oh, stop being such a p*ssy. It's not the Christians' fault; we're not perfect.

OK, but isn't trying to kill of a group of indigenous people for your own wealth and land a little bit TOO imperfect? Wouldn't it be...dare I say.....A BIT EVIL???

Christians; all I'm trying to express is that Christianity's history is of anything but love.

Christians in the past dont determine what Chrsitians are like today. Yes we had a violent history but most of us dont act like that any more. And anybody in the KKK is not a true Christiian as they dont promote peace and live theri lives in the Footsteps of Jesus. They are really hypocites.

And there is a HUGE gap between imperfection and hate rallies. "i'm not perfect" is an excuse a child gives his mother when he is caught stealing cookies out to the jar.

Just don't group all of us together like that. Just because some, well a lot, of Christians did something bad doesnt mean we are all bad people. Please dont judge.

Actually, there is a vast difference between people who claim they are Christians, and people who are Christians. History has recorded many atrocities of people who claim they were Christians. Yes people are imperfect...that's no big secret...but that doesn't excuse abhorrent behavior. True followers of Christ are taught simple golden rules of treating others as they would be treated. Those that try to follow this simple council are those that can be counted as true followers of Christ. Many people think that lip service alone qualifies them as followers of Christ. There are numerous examples in recorded scripture that gives guidelines as to who is a true follower of Christ and thus may be considered a Christian...and they don't include rapers, murders, suppression, dishonesty, covertness, adulters, liars, cheaters, those that would exploit one another,etc.etc.etc.

Strange question. What is religion other than a set of rules and rituals for worshiping some deity or other? Why should this set of rules be any different from any other set of rules?

Of course people who decided to call themselves Christians did horrible things and told everybody that "god" told them to do it. Romans did horrible things and told people their "gods" said do it. Pagans did horrible things because their "gods" told them to do it. Mayans sacaficed people to their "gods" because they said do it. People have always used religion as a scapegoat for what in fact was THEIR will. Christianity was/is no different from any other religion or philosophy. Why would anyone expect it to be?

You look at the individual, not the religion they label themselves with. There are Christians who are good people and Christians who are horrid people. There are Wiccans who are good people and Wiccans who are horrid people. There are atheists who are good people and atheists who are horrid people. Its always been that way. Who has said anything different?

I would bet that wealth, power and land had more to do with the European conquest of North America than the spreading of religion.
Many evil things have been done in the name of religion but many that have done those deeds aren't all true believers.

As if anyone of any other religion hasn't started a war or discriminated people.

For example, there's even a proper way of declaring a holy war in the Hebrew Bible.

In Pakistan, Sudan, and Turkey, Muslims persecuted Christians.

What about September eleventh?

Christianity sounds just as evil as Islam. Look at all the 'innocents' they put too torture and death in those witch trials. They were judged, and condemned for nothing. I've got too stay away from those snakes and vipers if I want too know what is good for Me!!! .....that's My answer!!!

Yes, we Christians have much to answer for. I wouldn't want to answer for the sins of the non Christians though. They have no one as an advocate.

I have no violent past and I am a Christian. I believe you are confusion History with current events. The past has many , many violent things in them. Hitler killed over 7 million Jews. He wasn't a Christian. So, what's his fault, sin, evil....

Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven.
