I received a telemarketing call, now they're sending someone over to the house. They sent me an information package and it all sounds pretty good but I've never heard of anyone's personal experience and they did not mention cost at all which does worry me.

I am in Canada. We were contacted, as you were, by the A+ Child Development company regarding their Headstart Program. We had a lady come out on Sunday to tell us about their program. She was very polite and answered all the questions we had regarding their program. The program itself sounded fantastic, with a certified teacher coming out to set us up and help along the way with questions we may have. My only concern is the cost of the program (about $3600 CAD). We have been burned before and would prefer it not happen again, so in the past couple of days I have been researching their company. I made it clear to the sales lady that I would be doing this and she was supportive of my research. She informed me that nothing was binding until the teacher came out to deliver the materials and at that time the payment would be due. (they have financing thru Citifinancial)

I have found out that their head office is in Calgary, but is registered with the BBB in Quebec. Their website is useless. I am going to contact them again to see if they have references that I can contact who are part of the program. I figure that if they have nothing to hide they will have no problem providing me with this information.

I don't know if this will help or not, but I just thought I would share what I know. Perhaps it will give you a starting point for your own research.

only project headstart I have ever heard of is through each state... if it is the same as what you got a call from, it would be thru the same group that runs WIC? and you should be able to find something at thru your state's website... IF it is the same? it is at no cost and I have only ever heard good things.. they are a grant organization (if I remember correctly) geared toward children that might otherwise be left behind... so that all children get a "head start" in life... from what I read of the ones in the area I live, the teachers and staff are all highly credentialed...
again, you would have to ask if they are the same... not familiar with the first name... the "project headstart" and it is the same name in each state..... they are good, from what I have read in articles...
hope this helped...
good luck

My concern with the Head Start program is that there are children in it who may not have had the best nurturing until now, and as a result may be aggressive or may otherwise have behavior that "rubs off" on other children. Young children do pick up behaviors. I did know one child who picked up some behavior.

I'm not saying it isn't a good program. I'm just saying it is a concern I would have about such a program. Maybe it depends on how supervised the children are at any given location and whether they spend a lot of time in "free play" with other children.
