I thought it was Christians who were into human sacrifice, from the death of their godman to the torture of people in the inquisition and the crusades, to the recent day dealings with non Christians in peril, where they have been know to leave villages after natural disasters when they refuse to become Christian in exchange for food and help.

Okay... they are really completely different. You should maybe look up what Jihad means and then you will see that it has nothing to do with human sacrifice. Jihad means struggle. It is the struggle against oppression and against the infiltratin of their way of life.
The human sacrifices that took place in the Native South American populations were generally from among their own people and only the best and brightest were worthy. Some cultures actually had contests to see who got the honor and sometimes prisoners of war were used. At any rate, these sacrifices "fed" the Gods and encouraged them to give gifts to the people.

As you can see, there is absolutely no similarity whatsoever between the two.

Both are different.

Jihad is supposed to be a holy war practiced by fundamentalist Islam like the crusades of Christians. Here jihadis sacrifice their lives for a cause which seem to them right and by sacrificing their lives they believe that they obey Allah.

Human sacrifice is usually performed by ignorant and illiterate people who think they can appease the anger of god by doing this. These were practiced by various religions.Even to day in India such practices are performed. For example childless couple or at the time of building a dam etc.

The similarities are that they fall into the same category as, say, the Inquisition or mass suicides - death spurred by religious reasons.

The differences center on reasoning - human sacrifice was rarely about what religion the victim practiced, whereas Jihad is motivated specifically by the religion of the target.
