Many people would look onto Jesus’ death on the cross as a proof of God's love towards humanity, for he let his own son down in this to redeem humanity. Is this fair? I really cannot see the casual link between the death of an innocent man and the atonement of the human being's sins. On the other hand, what kind of God is this that can conform himself with the acceptance of this sort of behaviour in order to atone for third parties’ sins. Would you imagine what the world would be like if we applied this sort of solution in courts and justice in general. If you come to think of it you will probably realize this God would suffer from the very same illnesses that pull the nerves and muscles of every human being and, so far, this is no God at all. I’ve always tried to put this issue across many Christians but they simply would not catch onto it. They simply say Jesus had to die on the cross because we humans could not afford to pay for our sins with our own blood. What kind of cowardice is this? Is this what we should call an honourable attitude towards life and other people’s feelings and freedom? Is this what maturity should be all about. To put things simply I would say that if I break a plate but you guys pay for it, I am certain next time I shall break another plate. Can you guys not see this?

I see the logic in your proposition, but I'm not a Christian. Trying to convert people with closed minds to your point of view is a waste of everyone's time. Just accept that we all believe something different, no matter how misguided it is.

To this I would add, at what point does the human race get to stop paying for "original sin?"

It wasn't MY original sin. It's not my fault Adam & Eve were weak minded fools. If there were a god who created me, and he told me not to do something, I am confident I could listen.

I didn't ask for Jesus's help, or for god to sacrifice his son. As far as I'm concerned, it's all a bunch of Christian b.s. It's the way the Christians are able to keep their flocks in control. Yes, their god gives people free will, but it's not TRUE free will, because you are always under his thumb. True free will would be, EVERYONE starts out life with a clean slate, and you are judged at the end of your life on the kind of life you led, not whether you obeyed some arcane rules in a moldy book written by ignorant goat herders. People should follow true north principles, not what another man says is right and wrong.

As it stands now, according to Christians, at some point between infancy and adolesence, EVERYONE automatically becomes a sinner, and then has to spend their entire lives deferring to Jesus, lest they burn for eternity. What a fabulous system to keep the masses in check.

I, for one, don't do anything bad enought to warrant an eternity of torment, thus my rejection of the Christian religion.

We do apply this principle and hold it in high esteem my friend. We see it in the news every day in big and small ways. Are you confused or curious yet? Firemen do not start fires as a rule but they die putting them out. Policemen stand in the darkness protecting us as well. Military? Same.

Now I could go and quote scripture, but it would not serve purpose here so I shall not. But, I will tell you how it makes since to me. Innocence was lost because of sin and "wisdom" now through Ignorance an innocent suffered again. In this salvation came through a willing sacrifice. A true sacrifice has to be perfect in every way. This is how God set it up and it makes since. Do you want to receive a cheap shabby item in an atonement for a wrong doing? Example: Some one hits your hummer and buys you and new jeep(see even though it is a new jeep it is no Hummer).

Now let us follow up with the final thing. Trinity God and Jesus and Spirit are one. Thus, God came down and paid the price He demanded! Can you get any more fair than this? We messed up and we were punished. But, to end what we started it took a God. A loving God who let his creation demean him and "kill" him.

If you read the third book of the bile about the atonement of sin and the original covenant God made with Isreal it will explain why the Jew sacrificed animal in the beginning. this was done ofter for atonement of sin at many different levels.

God requires atonement for our sins. A new covenant was established when Jesus gave His own innocent live and His blood was spilled for a new covenant and began the Christian Faith.

This is needed because we are and have been separated in the world from God because of our sin. Jesus was no coward. I hardly believe even 1% of our current population could have lived through what he experienced. And what He did , He did for us. To rekindle our bond with God the Father.

The way I understand it is that Jesus sacrificed himself as a way of teaching us that he was able to go the ultimate distance. It was THE ultimate act of Altruism.

There is a very definite "causal link" as you put it between what he did and atonement for all our sins. He was trying to teach us a lesson...one which not many people since have been able to pick up on, by my reading of the situation in the world right now!

The Buddha preached much the same thing - it's kinda like the ultimate way of being responsible for one's actions. Jesus would be the first to admit that he was less than innocent and that he was trying to atone for his own sins.

Imagine what the world would be like if we all got into the following ways of being, both within our own hearts and souls as well as showing them off to the rest of our fellow passengers on this little blue - green planet:

Altruism. Compassion. Peace. Love. Understanding.

Have a look at what the Dalai Lama says about this stuff.

Love and Light,

We can never be perfect, and Jesus was perfect. He gave His life for us because He did love us. He knew this was going to happen before the world began. He was willing to do this for us. When Adam sinned we could never save ourselves. Only the perfect Son of God could come down, and do this. We would all die in our sins, and go to hell. Open your eyes and see the love of God for all. Quit trying to reason it out. It is so simple. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and though shalt be saved.

I will simply say,
that we had to have God up there to run our world,,
so he couldn't be down here taking our sin..the world would end,and as the others say
Jesus had to die on the cross because we humans could not afford to pay for our sins with our own blood
its true, not coward

I can see how Jesus' sacrifice on the cross could be interpreted as you say, but you're missing the SYMBOLISM behind this act. It is not to be taken LITERALLY! It goes much deeper than that! Jesus sacrificing himself to atone for our sins, represents the deep devotion and love that God has for his creations. To have someone die for you, to save you, indicates selfless, non-conditional love, and complete altruism. There is no human selfishness here. Jesus, thusly, rose above all of humanity as he did something willingly that no human would think of doing in order to help or save another. This act separates him from the masses of humanity by this singular profound self-sacrifice that only someone obviously related to a god would be able to have the power and strength to do. You are forgetting that God raised his Son from the dead to everlasting life in heaven with Him. God did not forsake his Son. Jesus knew what was to take place, if you at all, know the whole story. He was not ambushed into this crucifixion. It was all pre-arranged. And that makes this act fair because He was able to prepare for what was to come and He knew full well that this act was an act of devotion for all of creation. This resurrection is also symbolic of what happens to each one of us after life here on earth. We each will arise as well, to be with our heavenly Father in heaven one day! Everyone has their own version for every religious doctrine ever set forth. But I'd say most should be viewed in a symbolic way for what the messages really are. Not to be taken literally. All religious doctrine is written in parables, meaning a story meant to convene a moral by using hypothetical events and situations to communicate the message or truth. Read religious writings more in the light of reading between the lines than taking them at only face value.

I pray for you and i'm not even that religious! you need to look else where for your faith if not in A " god of some kind in yourself! re read what you wrote & its apparent you have many more problems than what you are trying to eleviate with this simple question. It could be that the christians who didnt want to bother to answer you knew that there was something wrong also.
and on that note:
I believe that he died for "us"... not necessarily for our sins but for all of his followers too. He sacrificed himself so others wouldnt be sacrificed.( those where different times then) he suffered to help end the suffering of others. other people where punished for following him. He was a threat. when that was realized He sacrificed himself UNSELFISHLY you see. you need to see the bigger picture here. God didnt let his own son down he let him be of free will like all of us. He asked his father to forgive us because
we didnt know what we where doing at that time. Many didnt beleive him and thought he was a nut.
the only person who paid for his death was himself...

yes, it is fair.
God is fair.
jot this down:
all humans following Adam and Eve are born with a sinful nature.
God is without sin.
there is NO WAY God can allow a soul with a sinful nature to enter Heaven.
that means all humans are lost and destined for Hell.
end of story......

no, not quite.
God loves all of His human creations and wants to spend eternity in Heaven with them.
But what to do?
they have sinful natures?
God can not change the rules.
NO sin in Heaven.
hmmmmmmmmmmm....

well, God made a plan.
He would send His only Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to pay the entire sin debt in full for every human who has ever lived or will ever live.
That way, God made a way for all humans to get to Heaven.
if they accept God's Gift of salvation, already paid for by Jesus, they are guaranteed salvation.
you see, no man could have paid for all those sins.
a man can't even pay for his own sins.
Jesus was no man.
Jesus was God incarnate.
Jesus IS God yet today and always will be.
So, how can you call God unfair for providing a way for YOU to spend an eternity with Him, instead of in Hell?
that is, in my opinion, the height of ingratitude!!
shame on you.

I see that you have this whole concept wrong.
Tell me, do you honestly feel that God wanted this done..NO He did not.
But man in his arrogance would not change and as far as I'm concerned by the people on here that he still refuses to change. By His death, He has given you a chance, but only if you want it. The decision is yours to make, but the real question is, What is your choice?
It is sad that Jesus died, but would you give your life for the many?
