Why do single people go to bars? Nobody wants to marry an alcoholic so why do singles meet people at a bar?

Yes, I am aware of the fact that not everyone at a bar is an alcoholic. However, why put yourself in that situation to begin with? If you don't want to marry a drug user, then you wouldn't be looking be looking for a date in a treatment center. So, again I ask why do people look for a date in a bar?

2. Like you said, not everyone at a bar in an alchoholic- most are just people trying to have a little fun after a week of hard work.
3. You can hardly compare a bar to a 'treatment centre', that is just too much of a stretch. The closest connection would be an alchololics annonomyous meeting, and I doubt many people would go looking for a date there.

Maybe because that's where the people are. Get people(adults)together, and they will be using some sort of substance, whether it's wine, beer, liquor, hard drugs, something. It's a social thing, and some people (esp. women) tolerate it for a while because they are lonely and want to meet men. It is not necessarily bars---very nice dinner parties, get-togethers, pot-luck dinners, movie outings, family birthdays, Xmas parties, Weddings, office functions, etc. are extremely "proper" places to meet dates, new people, and they ALL might involve alcohol.

What's important is what YOU do, and where you want to meet people. If you are worried about having to drink in order to socialize, decide from the beginning what's more important to you---your health and safety, or not making waves or seeming "different" because you don't drink. It will be just as hard to stick to at a family party as in the local bar.

I don't go to a bar looking for a date, BUT a lot of adults have no way to socially interact with people For example, I work at home and live alone. I have no contact with the public unless I head out somewhere. I am in college part time and get to meet some people there, but I'm older than most of them. It's just a place to mingle. Granted there are some looking for booze and booty.

Because bars are social places, people go in groups and for their own pleasure, at least by meeting someone in a bar they are finding someone who is outgoing and enjoys themselves, which is what some people want. I understand your question, but a better phrasing would be like meeting people at a liqour store, that where you want alcohol and nothing else, bars have good atmospheres and have other things to do besides drink. So, just because you meet there doesnt mean you are an alcoholic or dependent on alcohol, it just means you have friends who wanted to go there, or you wanted to have some fun.

Because DRINKING IS FUN! People like to drink, let loose, and have a good time! If you're not into any of that, then stick to trying to find girls at church, the library, or have your mother set you up. But whatever you do don't come back into yahoo 3 years from now complaining that your wife is no fun, never wants to try anything new, and that you want a divorce after father two children because you need some excitement in your life!

Its a Social Gathering and most of them want to get married, and some Married Couples go out too to have fun.

If you taking about singles they're too busy or ashamed to settle down, they're only looking companionship.
