A really wacky way that works is hair conditioner.. put it on the gum and let it sit on there a few minutes then either comb or rub it out..

For gum stuck just on top of the coat, use ice cubes to freeze it first, then you can either break it off, or lift it off gently.

If the gum has been rubbed right in (ick), a good solvent will remove it better than anything. Peanut butter works for this rather well.

I know with humans, putting ice on the gum is supposed to help. I've never tried it, but maybe it will work on your dog. I guess there's no way to cut the gum off without hurting your dog, is there?

I had a similar problem..only my black dog sat in flourescent green gum on a hot sidewalk. The groomer used this stuff called GOO GONE and then just combed it out. In Canada you can find it at any hardware store such as Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, etc. In the states, I imagine you can find it at Wal-mart, or stores like that....look around, its not very expensive $2-3.....

Try rubbing it between your fingers for a few minutes with vegetable oil.

If it is not working, get the scissors and BE CAREFUL.
