I'm suffering from a sore throat approx. every 3months. The doctor keeps telling me it is a throat infection - but every 3 months? I have what looks like a little ball/lump on the left hand side in my throat. I keep getting prescriptions for antibiotics. This has been going on for almost 2 years now. Since a year I just refuse antibiotics. Antibiotics 4 x 1 wk in 12 months can't possible be good right?

My tonsils were taken out when I was 5 - Am 23 y/o now. Can they grow back??

ok first off, the reason you are getting a sore throat can vary. the underlying cause imo however is that your tonsils were removed. they are an important part of your immune system. they are like a filter for bad stuff. it is because of this that tonsils are not taken out as routinely as they once were.

now that they are no longer there, you are more prone to throat infections. if i had to venture a guess, i would assume that you are getting these sore throats because of either allergies or pathogens that would have led to an infection.

one of the first lines of defense once a pathogen has colonized your throat is for your immune system to nuke it. this does a good job of killing the bad bacteria and such, but is also harsh on your throat as well.

as i said another option could be allergies, where your immune system is over-reacting to the antigens of something it shouldn't. this is the most likely case if you are also getting things like a runny nose or stuffy eyes as well.

other obvious throat irritants are some foods in excess, smoking, etc.

and no, your tonsils cannot grow back.

the ball/lump on the side of your throat is probably just a pus pocket where an infective agent made it past the skin. neotrophils (a phagocyte - eats bacteria and such) rush to the site and litterally eat themselves to death. a large portion of pus is neotrophils that have died off after having their fill.

however, you should go to your doctor and have them take a look at the lump in case it it something more.

I think the frequency of your throat infection is really a cause for concern. Why don't you take the opinion of another doctor too. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Why don't you drink 2 tbls of apple cider vinegar mixed with water 2 times a day. ACV will cure your throat problems. You sound as if you need more water intake. Read the book: you're not sick, you're thirsty. It helped with my aches and pains. Also, you can read about acv on the web. Grows hair and nails super long.

I suffer from a sore throat every few months right before my period. It lasts a few days, but not much comes of it. Maybe you are having a hormonal issue.

The most obvious thing to me from what you say is repeated infections of tonsillar remnants , which have to be removed in another operation .

I'd ask for a ENT consult. Ear, nose and throat. Maybe they'd have an answer for you.

Try going with some CAT Scans to alleviate the amount of neural firings your brain produces as a result of electrically unbalanced neutrons that lead to readiation. =D
