I have a 4 month old shih tzu/bichon who is due for her rabies shot next friday. I am getting a new puppy of the same breed tomorrow. Can the 2 puppies play together even though they have not been fully vaccinated? Or should they be kept away from each other until they get their rabies shot?

As for my 4 month old puppy, she has had all her shots (including parvo) EXCEPT the rabies shot. And the new puppy has had its 1st set of shots.

if the pup has not had its parvo shot since a pup can be carrier of parvo and it not be noticed at all till it can be fatal i would recommend keeping them a part till the pup has been given a parvo shot. rabie shot is good to have but i believe i could put them together and relax till i got them the rabi shot but soon. but parvo is real bad and can be deadly . i had a pup once and it seemed to be so good and healthy but all at once it started to act sick and throwing up and with blood init in a matter of 3 days my pup died over parvo. so please yes get the rabie shot and foresure the parvo shot.

Dogs should have been vaccinated by the time they are 3 months. And, they should have had their rabies by the time they are 6 months. At least mine were.

They can't "catch" rabies from one another (unless one is rabid and bites the other), but if the new puppy doesn't have its DHLPP/C (the puppy combo vaccines) keep it away from your existing pup until it's received those vaccinations.

They'll be fine as long as it's just the rabies vaccine.

I would segregate them til they get the shots. My dog got parvo and it cost $300 for 2 days and a bunch of anti-biotics. Dogs can get parvo any time, it is NOT transmitted at birth-it's from walking in other dogs poo. The baby is the most at risk.

Yes as far as I know, there is no harm in playing together. But I suggest you visit http://www.dogsvets.net and consult a Vet or breed expert for free

First off check with your vet.

Second off, it is recommended that you keep puppies that are 3 months or younger away from other dogs, because the are more susceptible to diseases from other dogs.

Are you getting the 2nd dog from a reputable place or is it a puppy mill/pet store? If it is a puppy mill/pet store than keep them apart or better off hold off and getting that second puppy.
